My sister’s daughter recently received an email on February 25, 2016 congratulating her for her submission of her application, thanking her for her time, and announcing the countdown to March 10, 2016 (it also said they couldn’t say if she got in or not). However, the email also said that if there are any problems/questions about the decision to accept or reject her on March 10, they should not ask questions until March 15, 2016. I am curious about Exeter’s delay in replying to my sister’s daughter about her application and the meaning of this ambiguous email. What does it mean?
My guess is that they don’t want to be inundated by phone calls. I received the same email. Can anyone report any other iteration of one they received?
^^+1 - the admissions crew works their rear ends off through February. The last thing anyone needs is a ton of immediate reactions to admissions decisions. The request is not unique to Exeter and it provides the admissions staff a moment to catch their breath and parent and children a moment to gain perspective. It is not at all unlike one of my practices as a coach. Any parent can talk to me about concerns regarding a game. The time right after the game is the wrong time.
Center: I think you had it right on another thread about Exeter using the email to test their system since they had a problem with it last year. I also want to believe the posters who speculate that the email went to ALL of this year’s applicants, not just ones aren’t getting accepted. Hope springs eternal!
I think you guys are losing a little perspective here. I would take it at face value for what it appears to be. A blast email telling you when and how you will be notified, and when to contact them with a question.
If there were really different emails for different results, that would be tantamount to telling people before March 10. Among schools were several are applying to Exeter, the different wording would be outed right away.
LOL: I think we have all lost perspective and I can safely say, I am a bit out of my mind. I can manage disappointment and all that but right now my type A planning self feels STALLED…
I can confirm that my son received a similar email prior to M10. Don’t read anything into it, they are sent to everyone. He did end up getting accepted.
@Razingscholar Question: did the email say exactly “if there are any problems/questions about the decision to accept or reject her” or “not discuss any specifics of these decisions until March 15th”? My friend seems to have gotten an email which says the former, but mine says the latter.*
*My friend could just be remembering her letter wrong, who knows!
Congratulations on completing your application to Phillips Exeter Academy for the fall of 2016!
On March 10th you will receive your admission decision via email at this address. We anticipate decisions being sent out no later than 8am EST on March 10th.
By agreement with our peer schools in the Ten Schools Admissions Organization we will not discuss any specifics of these decisions until March 15th and we ask that if you have questions, you hold them until that time.
We thank you for your interest in Exeter and wish you good luck on March 10th!
