Does anybody know how to send in te Exeter essays, do you mail them? Or is there some kind of online method of sending them? Thanks

It tells you what to do right on the front page of the essay form.
Please respond to two essay questions and keep each response to between 200 and 400 words. Please attach a separate printed copy for each response. Mail this form to the Office of Admissions, Phillips Exeter Academy, by January 15. Please retain a copy for your records.

It used to be those had to be hand-written. When they say printed, I am assuming they (now) mean output from a printer?

Several years ago applicants were supposed to handwrite the answers and also attach a typed copy. The instructions should say somewhere.

I applied to Exeter last year and had to print and hand-write my essays. I think they dropped that this year.

Dang, they dropped that handwritten essay? Well, we’ll see if my theory about that requirement lowering their application rate compared to Andover holds…

I liked the hand-written requirement. It made my kid sloooow down and focus a little in the middle of a frantic admission season. Just my $.02.

I remember exactly where I hand-wrote my essays. Library with the national archives in Albany at the end of Christmas break. I couldn’t tell you where I typed any of my other essays.

@booklady123, and from the photo in your avatar, it appears to have worked out well for your kid! :)

@booklady123 If the applications in general, not specific to the entrance essay, says to either handwrite or type, would it be more preferable to type or hand-write neatly?

How’s your handwriting?

I don’t think I know the answer to that question! I don’t think the school has a preference, if they are giving you the choice. As far as handwriting goes, it is definitely harder to read, but if you feel like it’s more comfortable for you and the school is offering it as an option then why not?

The instructions ask for a printed copy. I believe it is to be machine-printed. The applications are all ultimately electronically filed, so I am a little surprised that they don’t want it sent electronically. It will be scanned in by a staff member. It is not likely to be machine-read (optical character recognition), but it might be. It is generally preferable to type all materials.
