Exeter Interview help?

I have my interview fir Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and Choate, do you guys have any advice on how to impress them or leave a good impression or anything beneficial? Thanks,

Be yourself. Get a good night’s sleep before the interview, eat a good breakfast, arrive on time for your appointment. Read the school’s viewbook and website before the interviews, and think of a couple of questions to ask. If you have a special interest, you might think of questions to ask every school. For example, if you’re a musician, you might ask if the band ever travels off campus.

Make eye contact with the interviewer. Stand when an adult approaches your group in the waiting room. Listen to what the interviewer says.

There is usually a tour before the interview. Ask your parents to hang back a bit. Ask them to allow you to ask the questions.

Dress well for the interviews. For boys, jacket and tie with khakis is great. Some students wear suits. For girls, a dress, or blouse & skirt, or dressy slacks will be fine. Schools will often send little notes to applicants before the visit, with words along the lines of, “We have found that visitors are more comfortable if they dress according to our dress code on campus.” If a school sends you such a note, TAKE THE HINT.

Think about yourself before the interview, too. What books have you read lately? What sports or activities do you enjoy? If you must travel great distances to reach the school, what have you noticed in your travels?

For choate, you can look at my thread I made. I just had an interview with them, and this was the advice I was given.

I largely agree with Periwinkle. During the interviews, make sure to ask the interviewer your questions, don’t let your parents ask all the questions. Show some interest as one of these schools will become your school. Make sure to follow the dress code, but try to stay on the dresser side of the dress code as some dress codes are flexible. Think of what interests you and be prepared to discuss yourself! Be serious but try to relax!

Make sure to portray to the interviewer what attributes of yourself would be a good addition to their school. What about you is unique? Where do you stand out? Make sure the AO knows the answers to these questions. Also BE YOURSELF (no body is better qualified)!

bump…

As we prepare for our interview trip later this week, I’ve searched CC and found your post to be my favorite-- I thought your advice was rational and common sensical. Thanks for sharing!
