Hello! I’m reapplying for Exeter this year as a 9th grader applying to 10th (last year 8th grader applying to 9th) and I’m a little confused on the interview system. Last year, when I applied, I got an interview with an admissions officer, but this year it matched me with an alumni interview instead. Is this usual to be interviewed by an alum near you rather than an AO? I asked some other people and they said that they got an admissions officer interview too, so I am a bit worried.
For Choate, son interviewed with an alum at a Starbucks near our home in AZ. He never stepped foot on campus or met any of the admissions staff until revisit days after he had been admitted. It does not matter who you interview with.
My son has mostly been interviewed by AOs, but also by a coach at one school (not in any sport he was related to). I think it is so busy this time of year, they get lots of extra hands on board.
Two of my children applied to Exeter. One had an on campus interview with Admissions and the other had an alumni interview via zoom. I believe it is simply a function of availability. Good luck!
