Exeter Stereotypes

What are the stereotypes?

Like the kids in general?
Are there dorm stereotypes?
Are there any "cliques"?

Courtesy of another thread hear on CC.

The boys dorm stereotypes. Don’t take them too seriously though.

As for the people in Exeter, from what I’ve experienced, most all are interesting people with great personalities. But I’m sure there are a few cliques thrown in. Oh well.

Exeter is just like any other school; there’s always groups of friends that hang out together. Overall, kids are pretty nice here. There’s very few instances when people don’t have any friends at Exeter.

Don’t try and attach stereotypes to each dorm. Every person is different, and will see it in a different way. Over half of those stereotypes above were probably written by someone that’s just way too much into generalizing, and are wrong.

My perception:

South side:

Cilley + Wentworth = mainly athletic people, extremely bright people aren’t very happy here

Webster = gamers + some thinkers + some atheletes

North side:

Ewald and Mainstreet are the two dorms with the most dorm unity, due to isolation from campus (seperated by Main St.) These two dorms definitely have the coolest architecture (and also largest rooms) out of all the dorms since they were built the latest.

Soule/Abbot/Peabody are in the middle of campus, people there can be of all types

what about girls dorms?

well, a lot of stereotypes tend to fade, and some stay depending on the year but here are the impressions i got from each dorm (i live on southiside)
SOUTHSIDE:

Amen: nicest dorm on campus and also known to have girls that can be very attractive (but also racially diverse),athletic (swimmer and crew concentrated), close with a lot of the boys dorms.close dorm (only 34 girls) but are not clique-y, a lot of girls maintain relationships outside the dorm. All are pretty smart and participate a lot in exeter.

Bancroft: Nice girls!, gotten more attractive over the years, there are a number of good athletes among the bancroftettes (pretty widespread among the sports as well), the younger class is very cliquey but the older class is more open to girls outside the dorm, is somewhat close to the boys dorms but is somewhat isolated. all are pretty bright and participate in exeter

Dvnbar: The biggest girls dorm on campus so you will hear many stereotypes! They have all kinds of girls because of its sheer amount. They are all genrally nice girls but its hard to put a name on them because there are so many!

McConnell: Gross dorm but very nice girls. do stick among themselves though. A large number of athletes but also a large number of artists Mcconnell tends to go both ways but its also very close

NORTHSIDE:

Hoyt: pretty athletic but alos a dorm with a lot of variety

Lamont: artistic (basicallly no athletes) but also known as “lamonsters”… not exactly the most attractive dorm on campus.

Langdell: Not the most attractive dorm but nice girls, not very athletic

Merrill: About the same as Langdell

Wheelwright: large dorm so i has a variety of girls, most are pretty athletic but there is also a number of artists. Prettty close, has goten more so over the years.

oh btw there is prep posse, and no one here seems to be able to live that down.

cmao I would just like to correct you on the no athletes in lamont thing last year there were ten different people on varsity sports teams and one was captain of three varsity teams. Thats like a third of the dorm.

I’m with vk77; attaching stereotypes to any dorm is stupid … you can only really speak for your own dorm since you’ve had experience there … Besides, dorms change every year, the new arrive and the old leave … every dorm gets their fair share of athletic/nerdy/artistic people.

“Cilley + Wentworth = mainly athletic people, extremely bright people aren’t very happy here”

I have to disagree with this statement. Son is in Wentworth and has definitely enjoyed it there- wouldn’t think of changing dorms. He has found a small group of like minded academics and has also stretched himself to try out for two JV sports as a prep. May not have done that if he was in a different dorm. All dorms are what you make of them and he has met a lot of nice people there.

@almost there and other posters
i do apologize about the lamont stereotpe. like i said i live on southside and one of my closest friends who lives in lamont and is an athlete is the only connection i have with lamont and she is moving out.
and i also apologize for even putting up my previous post. the fact is, yes there are these stereotypes but honestly you cant really put a definite name on a dorm, it changes year to year and there are always people in a dorm who wont fit in it and most of the time these people do just fine, or even thrive, in there dorms. diversity is important in all the dorms.

Wheelwright: large dorm so i has a variety of girls, most are pretty athletic but there is also a number of artists. Prettty close, has goten more so over the years.

False. I love how you say “over the years” after you’ve only been here one year… Wheelwright isn’t close at all…
and most aren’t athletic… but artists, true…

When I visited my host was in Wheelwright, and the prep class is very close there. However, the older kids did not seem to be whatsoever.

@skimilk
im sorry if you disagree with me but like i said i live on southside and this is my impression of them, meaning what ive heard about them and what my friends who live there say. at least the class i know and the class above me there are many athletes, and they are VERY close.

key word MAINLY, not all.

Jeez, you guys beat up on people so hard. Remember, these are STEREOTYPES and OPINIONS. You’re fact checking general statements.

What’s the prep posse?

Wow CMao. Throwing up the stereotypes after one year.

Agree with the guys dorm stereotypes.
Girls dorms

Amen: Dorm with the best facilities on campus, and that’s not even an argument with anyone. Commonly called “The Hotel.” Used to be the rich, catty blondes and “Anorexic Amen.” Classes of '05, 06, 07 and 08 ran the show. Now its just kind of random. Mostly pretty, but there’s a lot of drama.

Bancroft: Who cares?

Dunbar: Used to be Dunbar Funbar (ie a lot of drugs) but not really anymore. They’re mostly just a nice clean good bunch of girls.

Hoyt: House of Young Thugs, Hotties on Yo Thang… Right… They’re just nice girls. I hear they’re getting weird lately though… A lot of pretty girls.

Lamont: Lamonsters. Enough said.

Langdell: Langdell Bangs Well, Langd*ke (sorry if that’s offensive, but you asked…)

McConnell: Looks like a nursing home.

Merrill: Sterile Merrill

Wheelright: Real tight.
