Which would you choose and why?

I'm sorry, but maybe it was because you couldn't spell the name of their school?

I apologize, that was mean, but I just couldn't resist.

What are you most interested in studying and which school has the best department(s) in those subjects?

ex: son is interested in math and computers which seem like a great fit for Exeter.

Based on the course catalogs, Exeter is my favorite, but based on the athletics/clubs/extracurriculars, I like Hotchkiss better. Deerfield is kind of a wild card for me, but I'll have to see what I think after revisits.

My two major academic interests are math and economics. I like Exeter better for math, but Hotchkiss better for economics. I'm so confused!

Judging by that..maybe you can eliminate deerfield?

I would agree. Eliminate DF.

Yeah, there's a very minimal chance that I'll attend Deerfield, but I feel like I got an unusual vibe from the school because I didn't connect with the tour guide AT ALL. I feel like because of that I got a skewed image of Deerfield and just want to make sure. In the end, I'm nearly positive it will come down to Exeter and Hotchkiss.

go hothckiss. you can always do math on your own. find competition tests and other math stuffies online and practice
economics and EC....not so much

pinkheart23, if you have questions/concerns about specific disciplines (you mention math vs. economics), you shouldn't be reluctant to e-mail teachers and ask questions. Course catalogs don't always tell the whole story, and it's perfectly fine for prospective students to e-mail teachers with questions. I was going to write that both Exeter and Hotchkiss have faculty e-mail directories up on the internet, but I've checked Hotchkiss and their "send e-mail to faculty" link doesn't seem to work. Well, Exeter does have a directory :): Phillips Exeter Academy | Faculty

I think Hotchkiss is a little more well-rounded...that they're not trying to turn out kids who are "specialists" in any one field. It seems to be a triple-threat school with equally weighted emphasis on academics, athletics and arts.

Apart from academics, these schools (Hotchkiss/Deerfield and Exeter) are very different is size and feel; so consider whether you prefer a small rural setting, as opposed to larger campus and town within walking distance. Many usually prefer one or the other, so it may also help inform your decision.

If you like debate a lot I would go Hotchkiss, though there are so many variables.
