I just got the letter today and I was wondering about the 'popularity' (hehe I don't know how else to word it) of this program. Do many people go? I'm sure it won't be a waste of time, but does it give a freshman a good overview of the school in preparation for the actual year?

Is anyone for sure going to be attending?

what is the sampler program?

Sampler program invitations are only sent to a small group of people, it will be a huge advantage for you if you go, I'm even surprised that you used the phrase "waste of time" even though you said it wouldn't be like that.

It doesn't prepare you for the actual year, it just helps in getting to know the campus and a few of the people.
For those of you not invited to the program, the majority of the school doesn't go to it, I didn't go to it, and it's fine. Everything is what you make of it so good luck and seriously have fun the first few days and meet as many people as you can. :)

And join ESSO (exeter social service organization)-- there will be sign-up nights in the beginning of the year. it's super fun, you learn a lot, and you meet so many people (at the academy and outside).

But....what IS the sampler program and its purpose?

is the sampler program only for incoming freshman?

y do they only invite a few people? and again, what is it?

I don't know the details because I didn't participate in it and didn't read Exonian articles on it, but like I said earlier I think the purpose is to adjust and get to know the campus...help with transition. I don't know who they invite, but they can't open it up to everyone because that's a lot of money and work and it'd almost be like starting school early. That's what I think anyway.

If you can go, go! I didn't get invited personally, but I have friends who did and they loved it. I'm no expert, but I would hazard a guess that the point of the program is to basically get a feel of the campus and students before everyone else gets to (and yes, it's only for new people); to "sample" Exeter.

tuesdayair, I haven't been in the states for a year now and the plane tickets we bought to Boston only give me 3 extra days to shop/eat/breathe and vacation before the program starts. I want to make sure it will be very worth it before I agree to go. Of course the program will have advantages and like I said, it wouldn't be wasting my time but I had other aspects I needed to consider in my decision; an extra 3 days of vacation making 6 lovely days of break.
However that said I have decided to go having never visited the campus before.

From the letter, the sampler program is during the 3 days before school starts. Students move into temporary dorms on the night of August 31st. The next day, September 1st there are events around Exeter and on campus that let you get to know the town. And on Sept 2nd there is a day of mock classes and more events around the town. It ends in the morning on the 3rd.

If like tuesdayair said, they only send invitations to a small group of people, I'm guessing they send it to students arriving internationally? or did not get to go to Experience Exeter because of distance (though I don't know how they would keep track of that).

I got and invite to the sampler program, but would like to go to the soccer camp I heard was being help at the same time. I didn't get an invitation for that though because Coach Coder wasn't around whenever I tried to get a hold of her. Any thoughts on what I should do?

I contacted of of the exeter coaches and he told me not to worry about anything. All the prospects will get a lot of info in early to mid July about preseason and other stuff. I'd contact the director of athletics if you can't get hold of your coach.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You Herculez, are a life saver. hehe, silly pun.

I'm going to the sampler thing! Going to it actually only gives me like...1 extra day. It's a bit of a tight schedule, but I'm guessing that it's going to be worth it. Well, I hope so. :)

See you there!!!
(and I think it's an internationals thing...not sure though)

My daughter will be attending the Sampler Program. We are from smack in middle of the Midwest and she is a scholarship student. I am not sure about the criteria for being chosen to attend, but we are excited. The friends she has made throughout the summer on Facebook and MySpace all highly recommend the program. They sent a schedule and it sounds fun; Games, bowling, BBQ, etc.

I think people not from the East Coast and a lot of internationals were invited.. I think it's probably because of the geographic distribution? Not sure..
