Alright I understand you now.

ohmygosh xD
the person that said they made 580,000 a year and they’re applying for FA? i wanted to smack them…
my mother makes about 50,000 a year before taxes, my father has CP, MS and hes deaf so he cant work and my violin expenses are MAD high… so im DEFINITELY applying for FA…but i actually live a very comfortable life style. i go to a private school and live in faculty housing (my moms a teacher) so its not that bad if you dont make a lot. you can live a very comfortable lifestyle, even if you dont make 580K like some people on this site… gosh you guys…xD

cheeseviolin I am sorry that I came off like that, I really did not mean to.

Like I said I JUST convinced my parents to pay, go figure…

Mpicz, you mentioned that you have one income source. I wanted to mention something that I found out… They count your non-working parents income also. They estimated my mom’s income at about 80% of my dad’s. That put us from the middle to the fringe of FA. Lets say your mom has a BA… I’m pretty sure they add 60,000-100,000(In most cases…In our case at least).

Scholarships(Tell them it is for boarding school… I made the phone calls and they agreed that it was okay):
Scholarships

PS: I noticed that the “580k” baller we have on page one seemed familiar… I smell a ■■■■■. Let’s take a quote?

"My parents are in the upper middle six figures (most likely seven figures '09-'10, though until three years ago we made only 40k), no way will we get an FA… The problem is they are not willing to pay 40k… We are immigrants thus we do not have ANY financial security (my parents came here with $20 in their pocket), and they are correct in saying if someone loses a job we have nothing to fall on. I personally don’t feel like 40k will be much of a burden but they in no way will pay over 5k a year… This probably also goes back to their “modest” childhoods… For me and those of my ilk, does anyone know what I can do. I see loan programs but loans are harder and harder to get because people just cannot give out credit in such an economy.

This means a lot to me so we applied for FA for the hell of it (parents already told me unless our contribution is under 5k I am not going)…

I really need help, I have worked the last three summers, invested some money (and took it out before the meltdown, some gain there) but I only have 30k; not even one year."

ANOTHER

"I got all 100s except ONE CLASS…

So now my gpa is 3.8 something while otherwise it would be something VERY high. one 89 and it all comes crashing down. "

ANOTHER

"Not that they hate paying, or that they are misers, just that we have 3 generations, and a 12 person household. Paying the insurance for grand parents (4 of them) is insane living in CA overheads are out of the world… They have been making their current (“high”) income for only a few years and that basically was devoted to paying off stuff. We also had a great grand parent living with us and that was even more expensive…

Point being, they just are not ready to put out money for all these luxuries (they will be in a year or two once their account finally starts accumulating money)…

As for the 30k I made??

Investments baby! Well I made 10k with bets (5k worth with parents, 5k worth with the rich kids in my neighborhood, gosh they have been rich for the last 4981907843249087 generations)…

I found a boarding school that offers merit scholarships, I can probably find that, but their academics look worse then my current public school so I would pass if it comes down to that…"

After reading that… I’m pulling the BS bomb. Plus you “won” 5 grand off your parents? WOW. That would be pretty horrible since you guys are so poor… Bet you guys couldn’t eat for a week after that.
Just a note… My family supports my grandparents(He has had cancer twice which cost about $400,000) and my Aunt(Lost her job, needs almost 10 grand to pay down things). Guess what? Only 3 schools out of 6 actually took that into account. I can imagine that some people might fake spending money on relatives to get more FA… So whatcha gonna do…

My moms very educated, but she’s retired from her profession for about 5 years now and is just a stay at home mom. I don’t see what income they would be counting, she earns nothing…

They may not take that into account or a lot of stuff we’re paying for, but I know they have to account for the fact that a family is paying for a college tuition also. That takes a big toll and obviously changed the way we lived.

Wow… nice…

I honestly don’t give a **** for people who can’t find enough to do in real life to start CC dramas… So yea we made upper six figs, around 600k, I don’t get where you are going with this… It is my parents’ money, not mine. Until recently they decided not to pay for it, I knew it was a crapshoot but I decided to give it a shot.

You clearly don’t get what this means to me; instead of being snide go do something useful.

Guess what btw… Cousin had an online drama with some kid, they went to the same college and they love each other. Point being, the forums are not a place to judge others…

Italianboarder: Agreed.

Principalviola: I don’t get where YOU’RE going with this. Your posts just seem to be structured around showing off how much your parents make. Frankly, there are going to be richer kids at boarding school, and there are going to be kids that aren’t. It’s good that you retracted your FA application; there are people that actually need it, whereas you, apparently, don’t. I understand that your parents don’t want to pay for your prep school education, but schools expect families to contribute as much as they can.

Shut up everyone!

This thread was not created in the intention to start a fight.

Actually, italianboarder is correct. This is copied right from the PEA website: “We have the expectation that each parent in a family will work. When a parent of a financial aid applicant is not working, it will be important for the family to provide a complete explanation of why that is the case. Exeter reserves the right to “impute” an income for a non-working parent in determining a familys financial need.” I’m not sure how this works though, in uncertain economic times when people are losing their jobs.
