@asthrera I’m not sure there is much to read in what the default notice says. We had the same concern but once the application was up for consideration the decision came very quickly. My D was just admitted on Monday this week and her application had been submitted at the end of August. You submitted early enough that a decision should come in well before the end of the year, and hopefully within the next few weeks (if not the next few days). Keep checking that tracker because based on our experience things happen quickly once the status changes to "your application is being very carefully considered . . . "

Does minnesota have two application deadlines? Or only one?

For fall freshmen, priority deadline is 12/15. If you apply after that, chances of admission are small. Transfers have their own deadlines that vary by school. They have 2 deadlines. But for freshmen, just one.

Curious - does anyone know of anyone who has received a decision from Nursing (or been admitted to CLA instead)?

Accepted this morning! I posted in the other thread too, idk.

Starting to get really discouraged :((

My friend with the same act as me (28) and a lower gpa than me (she has a 3.5) just got accepted into the college of liberal arts. She applied middle of September, which is about a month after me, yet my status hasn’t even changed to being considered. This wait is beginning to make me wish I would’ve applied to liberal arts rather than nursing… So anxious. :-S

@heyoimsam Your friend got in before me too! I have the same gpa but a 32 on the act and applied in August for CLA, so don’t worry you’ll get your decision soon. I don’t know how they give out decisions, but there’s nothing we can do but wait now.

Im starting to think I wont get into Uminn! My boyfriend thinks i am being ridiculous (he lives in MN and went to the U) but it’s been over a month now…I am trying to reassure myself with all the other comments I’ve read. but my stats are right on the average stats for those admitted to CBS last year. I dont know if this bids well for me or not. My ACT was a 30 and my UW GPA is a 3.5 and Weighted is a 3.7, reason being a significant decline in grades during my sophomore year due to health issues, which I specified on the app. Junior year i managed to get a 4.0. Surprisingly i am still in the top 10% of my class (40/432). Agh…fingers crossed for all us peeps who dont have the oh-so-spectacular stats! :P

@asthrera I don’t know anything about admission to CBS but you have a great shot at least of getting into CLA based on my D’s experience (her ACT was higher but GPA, backstory and academic performance trend very similar). What did you specify for your 2nd choice of college?

@Mamelot When I filled out my application I didnt know that i should have listed two differe t colleges of choice So i had listed CBS twice. But I’m hoping that if I do not get accepted into CBS they will put me in CLA since that is what has happened to others before looking at the other forums, and my extracurriculars line up pretty well w/ liberal arts.

But anyway, i do know i am beingkind of irrational. I dont think coming on CC has helped at all in reassuring myself; it’s guaranteed a majority of those who frequent CC will have much higher GPAs and test scores than any average student (although by no means would i consider myself average, although i may be seen as below average on CC). I mean it is pretty evident just by looking at these threads. My boyfriend even tells me to stop frequenting these forums. they really do bring me down a lot and i think i have a pretty good chance at getting into CBS. I just am so stressed out because of the wait. UMN is my top choice and not getting in will complicate so many things. Hoping to receive a decision by the end of this month, before my birthday so i am not sad the whole time lol

@asthrera here is one benefit of being on the forum: you should know that your stats are good enough for CLA at the very least. And you are absolutely right that UMTC will admit applicants to colleges they haven’t even specified if they feel it’s a “good fit”. Remember, they publish ACT/SAT and class rank. If you have stats that help with these #'s (and that 30 ACT HAS to help with CLA at the very least), they will admit you if you applied before the priority deadline. I think you are correct that you will get in. But, if you are wait-listed, then definitely appeal the decision especially if you know others who got in with worse stats because you would have a reasonable case. Finally don’t give up hope because you should get a decision well before the end of the calendar year if you applied in Sept. Good luck!

@Mamelot That is very true! And i very much hope I dont get waitlisted, especially after having applied pretty early D; But anyway thank you very much; I guess there isnt much to do but wait now and hope for the best! I am just so anxious as i am sure many others who are waiting for their decision are!

hello there ! my tracker updated to accepted to CSE as well. But it didnt specify which major ( i applied for chemical engineering and biomedical engineering). Did it specifically mention mechanical engineering on your tracker ?

Just a question for those who have already been accepted: how long after you got the letter recommending different campuses did y’all receive your decision? Just curious because I just got my letter today.

@rachuree12 - They don’t mention your major on the acceptance. It just says that you are admitted to a school. CSE is where you could major in chemE, so that’s good news that you got accepted! You don’t declare your major until you are enrolled and have taken certain classes that vary by the major (usually soph year). You also have to have a decent technical GPA in that major area - esp important for competitive majors like ChemE. After you get in, you can do APAS and plug in a major to generate a report showing what you have done (eg if you have AP credits etc) and what you will need for that major. .

@confusedteen15 - I don’t think the letter recommending different campuses has much to do w/ acceptance time line except that it seems like some automatic thing sent out when the system recognizes you have a complete application if anything. But maybe that’s progress since it seems like they don’t have everything officially in the system for awhile after you turn it in. My son’s tracker didn’t show everything in (including app fee, which he paid by cc when he started the app) and he kept getting emails to complete his application. He had everything in the day he applied, so it was very confusing. We both called UMn to see if it was indeed complete or something was missing. After being handed around, someone would finally confirm everything was in but “maybe the system just didn’t have it yet”. That happened 3x before the tracker finally showed it was being carefully reviewed. He also got the request to share his application w/ the other campuses after the “reminders” to complete his application stopped. But once the tracker finally showed “careful reviewing”, things finally started to move along. It seems like the decision comes fairly quickly after that review msg based on the msgs on CC and our experience (about </= 1wk?)

One thing to note that ppl may not know if you aren’t from MN and doing PSEO at UMN - the UMN has another “priority deadline” of Oct 15th for PSEO students and they are supposed to be informed by Dec (I can’t recall the date - I keep thinking 15th, but it may be I’m thinking of the major priority deadline). So maybe if they got a lot of PSEO apps, they are prioritizing them right now to get them done before the Dec deadline. Then they turn to the other apps that got in before Dec 15th “priority deadline”. I thought I would mention this PSEO Oct 15th deadline in case that may be why some ppl feel like their apps seem to be just sitting in limbo. Hopefully things will move more quickly after they get through these earlier PSEO apps. Students can do PSEO starting Jr yr and they only accept 500 new students each year so it seems like there could be up to 1000 students any given year - not all Srs and not all necessarily applying to UMN. We never heard of this deadline even being from MN. S got into PSEO Jr yr, but couldn’t find a class that fit his schedule, so we never went to the orientation. They only talk about that earlier deadline at the orientation. Anyway, I thought I would mention it in hopes that it may calm some nerves - it would be a logical explanation for delay around this time.

@MomMe32 If it helps, I am currently (and have been for 2 years) a PSEO student at the U of M Twin Cities and submitted my app early August. I have yet to see a change from “your materials have all been received”.

@AnotherPSEOKid - Do you remember during that orientation that they said that if PSEO kids get their stuff in by Oct 15th “priority deadline” they will hear something by Dec 15th? It was verbal so maybe I’m mis-remembering the “hear by” date, but I do remember the Oct 15th PSEO “priority deadline” thing. Hopefully as a PSEO student you will get your app reviewed soon. Which school did you apply to? I honestly can’t detect a definite rhyme or reason to how UMN admissions works. While rolling admissions is nice in some ways b/c you can potentially get a decision earlier, it can make for more tension when the decisions come out in such an unpredictable manner. Maybe the PSEO thing isn’t a factor - I admit I have no idea! Good luck!

@MomMe32 thank you. Yes I am guaranteed a decision by Dec 15 (or earlier). I applied to CBS.
