Hi everyone… posting because I applied to Liberal Arts College and they received all my materials September 8th. Have not received anything… I got accepted into my backup school in a week. App tracker sais " Thank you! " and something about receiving a decision by the end of February…

Well, I know 2 people who have gotten into the same college I applied to. One applied middle of October and was accepted a month later, the other applied literally DECEMBER 15TH on the deadline. SHE RECEIVED HER ACCEPTANCE LETTER YESTERDAY.

Isnt the point of rolling admissions is that if you apply early you will get an early response? Even a rejection letter would please my now. I wanted to go to the main U when I applied but 4 months later the main U is in the back of my head now.

Granted my stats are “low” ( 3.3 GPA, 24ACT ) and figured it wouldnt hurt to apply. Im a first gen college student ( no one in family or parents have degree ) and am in state. Both people I know had high gpas ( 3.8? ) and 24-29 act.

Im calling them first thing Monday… should i just give up?

We’re also wondering . . . Does an online status of admitted to CLA mean you have been declined for Nursing Guarantee? Or does it possibly change? Curious about a “rejection” letter, too. It would be nice to know the sequence and if/when the decision is made about Nursing Guarantee.

My S accepted in mid-December, too. Even got a personal phone call. However, no word on any scholarship (we are OOS) and have already heard affirmatively from 6 other schools with merit attached. He really wants to visit UM but hate to fly out and take seriously until we hear about scholarship, if any. anyone know how it works? We are from PA so not an easy or inexpensive flight to just come visit.

@researchQ, whatever you decide to do about the timing of your visit, I’d highly recommend applying for housing ASAP if U of M is even a “maybe” for your son. It’s ok not to know which dorms to choose from yet because your son can research them and update his preferences as much as he likes till the May 2015 housing deadline. The housing fee is $25 and along with the completed application reserves the spot.

@researchQ, D was accepted in early October then about 2 weeks later she received a letter in the mail with the merit scholarship. She is OOS as well, and the scholarship waived the OOS tuition difference (gold scholarship). Since U-Minn is a strong possibility for D, she put a deposit down for housing, to increase her chances of getting a good dorm room location if she attends U-Minn.

@heyoimsam, we spoke with an Admissions rep on Tuesday, and she said that our D did not receive Nursing Guarantee. She said it would have appeared on the tracker, and when she looked at her file, she was denied in Nursing, and admitted to CLA only. D will not be attending the U, but has excellent options elsewhere. Good luck to you!

Unfortunately still waiting. Though I dont know if it really constitutes as waiting as I only check the tracker once a week now and often have even forgotten I applied.

@2inCollegeSoon when I called the admissions yesterday they said it would be seperate notifications and that I may need to wait a few more days to find out - but they didn’t ask my name to search my information so they hadn’t looked at my file to see if I was denied or accepted from nursing. Should I call again and ask them to check for me or should I just wait?

@heyoimsam, we found if we called and asked to specifically speak with an Admissions Rep (not just a student worker who answers the phone) they would look up the information on our daughter. We even got an email from the rep we spoke to, apologizing for not understanding when we met with her in person on Tuesday that the decision had been made. Frankly, the whole situation has been a bit disappointing. It’s worth a phone call, in my opinion. Good luck to you - we hope you get good news!

@2inCollegeSoon and @hoyoimsam - Son received admissions packet today for CLA with no mention of Freshman Nursing Guarantee (FNG), so I also called admissions to clarify. I was told that you are never specifically rejected from the FNG, you just never get accepted. Those who do get accepted to the program may be notified in different ways - some get a call, some are accepted with the CLA acceptance packet, some get a separate letter of notification, or the tracker. I do believe they are still reviewing and sending out FNG acceptances but I think it’s less likely as time goes on. I could be wrong but I think the way it works is that they “accept” 200+ into the program and have only approx 100 spots, knowing that many students will go elsewhere. If it looks like there’s room they’ll keep inviting. The admissions counselor was very nice but kept saying how competitive the program is. Indirectly, she admitted my son’s chances are slim to none (your situation may be different!). A little disappointing but really, that’s OK, he got accepted elsewhere - a private school, same out of pocket cost as the U, and the spots in nursing aren’t limited. We got a little excited when the tracker said he got accepted to CLA but at least we know. Best of luck to all of you!! :-)

@heyoimsam, the Admissions Counselor told us by phone and later by email that D was not accepted into Freshman Nursing Guarantee. For reference, 27 ACT, 3.3 UW GPA, all honors and AP classes, plus 15 dual credits through our local community college (3.6 community college GPA). She struggled academically during her freshman year and we identified a minor reading deficiency. Once corrected, her grades improved significantly, including 4.0+ on 4.0 scale. Her grade trend was very good, and we explained all this, but apparently it wasn’t enough. We are OOS (Illinois) and she has been accepted into direct admit elsewhere, as well as another top-ranked national program. This whole process has been very frustrating and their inconsistencies in messages and apparently decisions and notification are very disappointing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for you.
I am a transfer student to CSE. My tracker status changed yesterday to “carefully consider”. I don’t really know what they mean by that. I wish I can get accept. I checked tracker hourly. Can’t stop to check it. I feel nervous.
@uscollege123 it means that a decision will be forthcoming very soon. I’ve heard that the Tracker updates in the afternoon and I know that it updates first thing in the morning - by about 8 am Minnesota time. So you probably need to check just twice per day.
@tryingBest I submit on January 23. Application complete and forward to CSE for review on Feb 05. @Mamelot Do you think I will know by early next week?
I read other post and people who got accept usually get the status change from “carefully consider” to admitted in the next day. It doesn’t happen to me so I think I get rejection. Don’t know what college I’m gonna go if I get rejection.
