I have a 3.3 and a 24 and after viewing several other posts on this forum I have come to the conclusion that I am probably getting deferred. Now it is time for the next step, what should I do about it? Basically, my question is, is there anything I can do NOW that may turn the tide on my deferral, or just have me ready just in case?

I was thinking about writing a letter of interest before I get my letter, is that a bad idea?

I would wait to hear from MSU before you send out a letter explaining why you should be accepted if you are deferred. Not much you can do right now except wait. Have you applied to other schools? If not, you definitely should if you feel that you are going to be deferred, especially since most applications are going to close soon and it’s getting late for rolling admissions.

I’ve gotten accepted to 3 other schools (I don’t really want to go to them though), and I have two other applications pending (both out of state, so I probably won’t have the money to go).

Just sit tight and wait for your decision before you do anything. You will probably get your decision in the next few weeks, so wait until then.

Sean- MSU doesn’t like to reject people right off the bat. Usually they will defer applicants who have stats lower than that of the average admitted applicant.

Coolbreeze- yes, waitlisted is the actual term but many people use defferal when they are “not-accepted-not-rejected” and many of those waitlisted people will get pushed on through and might be admitted spring semester. Deferral is just what we use because people know what it is.

And sean, ps is right. Have a really strong 2nd semester of senior year and you never know (if, of course, you don’t get accepted).
