Expelled at previous college & seeking to transfer...

I have a fairly serious problem and really need some advice. I was expelled from college during my last semester for disciplinary issues (i.e., forging school documents, etc.) several years ago. However, I was off psych meds due to an interruption in medical insurance (please see my other thread) when the incident happened and was not of sound mind (e.g., I filled out and forged minor forms for minors I already had); that didn't matter to the judicial committee that expelled me, or the school's zero-tolerance policy that they referenced. I am back on meds and in therapy now; there have also been other safeguards put into place to prevent this from happening again.

Now, I am preparing to enter a large state university under their guaranteed admissions program (an articulation agreement with state CCs), having taken courses at a Connecticut community college and receiving my Associate of Arts degree. However, I am worried that, despite the fact that I've followed the GAP guidelines, my prior expulsion will prevent me from enrolling in a degree program at the university.

Their policy on just CONSIDERING regular (vs. GAP) transfer students is as follows:

"You [must be] in good standing at, and eligible to return to, the last institution of higher education you attended. Students who have been dismissed for any reason - academic, disciplinary, or otherwise - must complete satisfactorily one year of challenging, full-time academic course work at another institution before applying [...]."

I am in good standing and eligible to return to THE LAST INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION I attended, but not at ALL institutions. I have also completed more than two years of full-time, challenging academic coursework. I'm very worried (especially considering a prior incident involving a student expelled from CCSU who applied to UConn and was denied admission based on his prior expulsion: Judge Vindicates Expelled CCSU 'Cheater' -- Courant.com) that when the university receives the transcript with "Expelled" on it they will reject my application altogether.

Is there really any hope for students who have been expelled from a college, due to disciplinary issues, in getting into another four-year institution? I've waited years and I think I've made a full rehabilitation; is that really enough?

honestly, I do not know solution for this. But, I think it would be helpful to talk with your advisor at college where you intend to transfer.
Did they look at your profile?
I am sending this because one of my friend also had similar situation with you. She is also worrying and researching for her own solution.
She also transferred to prestigious ivy from four year, but her plagiarism incident turned her future terribly. It seems like she is not giving up and I am in contact with her.
If there is anything I find, I will reply you back.
Also, I hope you to reply me if you made your solution earlier than her.
best,

I’m not sure why you are so worried, as according to the excerpt of the policy that you have cited, you have fulfilled their requirements for entry after a disciplinary action.

If you are still concerned, talk to your advisor at your current school and/or call the transfer school and talk to their admissions office.

The situation for the OP may NOT be the same as your friend, both because their situations will be different and schools don’t all have the same policies.

to entomom,
So all universities have different policies? Does that mean even several universities within same state might have different policy in terms of accepting such transfer students?
Could you give more information about this?

Each institution sets its own policies on any different issues. You really do have to search each website individually. If you do not find an answer for your specific question, pick up the phone and call them.
