Expelled, CHSPE, Community College, then University?

Hello College Confidential,

It's near the end of my second semester of my Junior year in high school. A week ago, an incident occurred that will result in my expulsion (because the expulsion process takes so long). I got to a public school. After much discussion with my family, I have decided to take the CHSPE, then attend a community college, and finally transfer to a university, hopefully one better than I would have normally been able to attend had I taken the traditional route.

I've taken almost all AP's and Honors classes throughout my high school career (the only non-honors classes I've taken are College Prep English 11, PE, French, Journalism, etc.)

My stats:

3.57 unweighted GPA (I don't know what will happen to 2nd sem. junior grades)

2080 SAT

720 Bio (took as a freshman)

waiting on May USH

Contemplating whether or not I should bother with the June SAT2's (I had planned on taking math 2 and physics)

307 community service hours

Was supposed to be Editor-in-Chief for the school's online journalism program (for senior year)

Was supposed to be head of the photo commission in ASB (for senior year)

Editor of Photography for journalism

Boy Scout SPL for 6 months, current ASPL

(almost) Eagle Scout

Took the AP Psych, Physics, and USH tests. Will these be counted at all?

Basically, I'm wondering how the application process for transfer students who test out of high school with the CHSPE works.

Oh, how will my expulsion work against me, if at all?

I understand some universities look at your high school transcript when transferring from a JC? How would it work in my situation?

My expulsion was a shock to the entire school. Not only do I have to face the school board regarding the incident, but I also have to face the criminal justice system. I did not steal, nor did I commit any violent acts. I don't want to go into the details of the incident though.

Thanks CC!

I had a friend take the CHSPE and go to CC. She said the process is the same as a usually transfer, but you’ll need to send them proof that you took the test and passed (obviously). Some schools will look at your high school transcripts as well, and your expulsion will show up on them. You will need to explain what happened on your applications, but I’m sure you were planning on doing this anyway.
It depends on what year you transfer into. If you’re going in as a sophomore, then most schools look at your HS grades. As a junior, they won’t really look at them, and some schools don’t even require them.

alex…Keep in mind that if whatever offense you committed was drug related, it could affect your eligibility for federal financial aid. If that is the case, make sure you research what needs to be done in order to ensure your eligibility. It sounds like you’ve got a plan to redeem yourself from whatever mistake you made, and I hope it works out you.

All I can say is do whatever you have to do in order to get the criminal charges dropped, expunged, sealed, etc. If there are classes to take to do so and you don’t have the money, borrow it.

I’m not incredibly worried about the criminal charges. I’m not 18, and a lawyer told me there would be a 20% chance that it would be dropped altogether.
As for federal financial aid, I’m an only child of two working parents who earn rather high wages, so I’m okay on that front. I’m wondering, still, about my AP credits though. Will they transfer to a Community College?

Probably not, but they will transfer to whatever university you end up transferring to.

the reason for your expulsion and the criminal charges could have a huge impact on why you were expelled/why youre facing criminal charges.
