My niece a Senior and a top tier student went to College A for High School Summer College Program. Unfortunately she ended up with wrong crowd and was thrown out of the program, for being near Alcohol and not reporting it (and not for consuming it). A very harsh punishment in our opinion. She plans to apply to a few top tier colleges say College B.
Q. Can College B find out the disciplinary record from College A if the application does not mention College A at all in the application? (assuming the disciplinary record question is marked “No” as well)
No. that isn’t part of her high school transcripts.
When consequences are that severe, usually it is made quite clear in the materials or at the beginning. There are not usually surprise or arbitrary punishments. Many high school’s and even colleges have similar honor codes where tolerating the infraction without reporting makes you complicit.
I would recommend against mentioning the summer program at College A at all-- if she is asked by College B to prove her participation in that program, it is very likely they will be able to access her disciplinary record from that institution.
If she had completed this summer program would she have received college credit for the class? If Yes, then she needs to find out if she was dropped before a transcript was generated. If a transcript was generated then she will need to submit that transcript when she applies to college even if it just shows a W for the class.
Hello, I was one of the students in this situation. We did receive transcripts and the classes show “W’s” for records. How will other colleges know if we were there at all? If we just don’t mention the program will they really search for that transcript?
It really depends. My kid did college-based summer programs (not for credit) and if she didn’t mention attending them colleges she applied to would never know if she’d been asked to leave (she wasn’t, but she knew of kids who were).
I think you would be within reason to assume that this isn’t part of your college record and therefore nothing needs to be said at all. It was a high school program after all, not summer school for college students or high school classes taken for college credit (which would be part of your record and need to be reported.)
Even if your summer program record were to be forwarded to colleges, the W means incomplete. That’s all it means and you don’t need to give more information. I doubt they will ask.
