Expense Breakdown

Is there anything that shows us the breakdown of our school expenses, and methods we can use to pay for them (e.g. do we pay the tuision fee of 40k in cash or check etc)? Also, my SEVIS form estimates that living expenses for an academic term are $14,434 - how does that break down?

[USC Financial Aid - Applying & Receiving Financial Aid - Undergraduate - Costs](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates1/costs.html)

Student account payment options: [USC-FBS - sfs - Payment Options](<a href=“Student Financial Services”>Student Financial Services)

There will also be a session at Orientation called “Paying for College,” which is all about the payment options, deadlines, payments methods, payment plans, etc.

note that the expenses will vary by major…

I ended up making a speadsheet for my expenses, haha.

thanks, i was also wondering how much the international orientation in Hong Kong July 31 was, I know you have to add $180+$100 for one extra guest, and shirt/bag is $20

how’d you make that spreadsheet?

i basically listed all my costs, all my aid, and all my income in separate sections, tallied them up and figured out my costs with loans and without loans (using a loan calculator)

"580 Transportation "

For out of state students, one round trip airfare is about $500. The actual transportation for the year will be a lot more expensive than $580. Lol…

^ haha definitely… my airfare expenses tally up to around $1600

Yeah, if I get in and go to SC, I’ll probably only be able to come back home twice a year, I’m from the midwest. How long is Christmas break?

Jeez $55k is pretty pricey. Does USC lock tuition, like what you pay for tuition freshman is what you are gonna pay senior year? I know USC has good FA, and I really hope I get a decent package.

oh, I and I might be able to cut down on flight costs coming home for the summer by taking a mac flight from one of the military stations down in San Diego to Dayton. Wouldn’t risk it during the year for like Christmas break.

USC does not lock tuition. You can, however, pre-pay all of undergrad at the current one-year rate, if you so choose.

Winter break is 3 weeks long.

Buy plane tickets early. I got my flights (from Portland to LAX) for about $200 round trip.

definitely order airplane tickets early. and don’t always go through travel agencies or sites, i’ve found some of my cheapest rates from going directly through virgin america’s site

^ I second that, some flights are already fully booked for december/jan

Also, make sure you consider Burbank, Orange County and Ontario airports. Also, Southwest Airlines doesn’t show up in some travel sites so check them out separately, particularly because they provide two free bags. Wife and I accompanied son out for move-in freshman year which meant 6 free bags, plus 3 carryons plus 3 backpacks/purses with no additional charges.

…and remember to sign up for the frequent flier programs…so worth it!
