So i got this email yesterday that says

Congratulations on your admission to Cal Poly Pomona!
As a newly admitted Out-of-State student, you are cordially invited to attend Experience Cal Poly Pomona! This FREE event will provide you with an opportunity to tour campus, attend valuable workshops, meet other newly admitted students (including those from out-of-state and internationally), interact with current CPP students and much more! As an Out-of-State student, we understand the need to find a home away from home and to know that you will be a part of a supportive community. We highly encourage you attend Experience Cal Poly Pomona as it will answer your questions and ease your concerns. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!
The Experience Cal Poly Pomona event will be held on:

Friday, April 11
10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Cal Poly Pomona
Bronco Student Center (Building 35)

I want to go but seeing as orientation is also something that needs to be done before attending, the expenses to buy a plane ticket and hotel room just for 4 hours of this just doesn’t seem realistic to me.
Is there anyone that is attending this event or has in previous years?

I’ve received the same email, I’m from Washington State. I don’t think you need to go to orientation before this event because the purpose of the event is to get you acquainted to the school. I might be wrong however but it would be cool to see more out-of-state students because CPP has like 1% out of state population…

Oh I meant orientation before the fall semester not the event. It would be so cool to meet other out of states but it would be like $500 between air fare and hotel just for a four hour event. I wish they at least provided housing for one night

I wouldn’t hurt to contact someone at the school to ask if they have an overnight program for freshman or transfer student program. Sometimes they have them but don’t advertise them as heavily because maybe there are more costs involved.

I made travel arrangements for my son and I to visit a UC campus Admitted Students Day about 6 hours away (drive time) from home. Bought air, hotel and car rental - all non-refundable on a Sunday. The following Friday, my son gets an email from the school offering to fly him up to the school, give him accomodations in the dorms and food, etc. for the same weekend! Aaaah!

I had no idea that schools even did that kind of thing, but I would have delayed making travel arrangements if there was a chance at getting an invite to it. I am going to fly up and check out the town on my own now while my son gets to enjoy the student perspective experience without mom (even though I will still be there doing my own thing!).

So what I am trying to say is ASK, you just never know.

There’s a program for Cal Poly Pomona in San Jose too on April 5th
