Experience with Goucher for ADHD/LD Kid

My daughter is down to her final list which consists of Goucher, Allegheny and Simmons. She really liked Goucher at the admitted students day. I’m not so sure.

Anyone with kids that go there? Looking for a small supportive environment that will push her academically and teach her to think, write and help her develop. She has a variety of learning disabilities and needs a small supportive environment.

Have you considered contacting the office of disabilities (or having her contact them) to see what their “system” is? For example, do they have notetakers? ETC. My daughter with ADHD went to Boston University. She had an IEP, primarily because I am in the IEP “world” and I insisted. We took the IEP with us to BU during orientation weekend and met with the Disabilities Director, who was very impressive in her interaction with our DD. She agreed to keep the file on her desk, and said that she would see her herself. DD did extremely well, and never needed to go. I think that one thing that helped her was that she decided on her own to return to medication. As she told her psychiatrist, “I stopped them because I didn’t think that I needed them in high school, but I know that college demands new skills and strategies, and I want the best chance at transitioning well.” She also took all the suggestions that I had given her in high school (many of which she disregarded) and (as she says) "took them out of the deep freeze and thawed them out for use. LOL. You probably know that IEPs hold no weight in college - you switch to ADA regulations. It does help them to have old testing, especially up to date psych testing. PM me if you need more advice!
