experience with testing accom. collegeboard

My 2nd is ready to take his first Sat 2 in January. His counselor has summited paperwork for extra time and possibly a reader. The collegeboard has not gotten back to us yet granting the extra time. They don't let you register with accom. without a special number. I am nervous about waiting to long to sign him up for the test. We only have 1 test center available for that date and I really don't want to drive an hour for him to take the test.
I have thought about signing him up without the accom. and then changing it when we receive it. I don't know if that is doable. I have an inquiry into the collegeboard but have not heard back yet.
I thought I would ask if anyone has had experience in this.
Also he seems to do better strangely on test that are not multiple choice. Any suggestions on how to improve test taking on multiple choice tests.

Amazingly, I have already hear back from the collegeboard. Actually twice. First with info. and an offer to investigate status. I e-mailed them back the info and hear back in 15 minutes with confirmed status and his student disability ID number.
It seems that he will be tested not at a test site but at his own school. Anyone have any experience with that?
