Experience working with others?

I'm planning on applying to MIT, as well as possibly Brown and Carnegie Mellon (although MIT is by far my first choice) next year (I'm currently wrapping up my junior year).

Since I'm socially anxious, introverted, and just generally a major loner, I have practically zero experience working with others. I feel that this will be a hindrance in my application, but more importantly, in my performance at any university, especially one as prestigious as MIT.

I'm trying to fix this by the end of my senior year. Currently my thoughts are:
- Join my school's robotics team next year.
- Do some community service. Maybe tutoring next year, or maybe unrelated stuff over the summer.
- Join academic decathlon next year. (I've been planning that one since near the beginning of this year).

What do you think about those ideas? Are they a good start? Are they sufficient? What else should I do? What are your thoughts about the situation in general?

Thanks!

I believe it’s a good start in terms of self improvement. Clearly establish your motivations though; you are doing this to better yourself, not to get into a prestigious university.

As to whether or not this is sufficient, that is for you to determine. Participating in more activities may give you several unique experiences. Committing to just one or two activities may provide higher quality experiences.
