My names Katie I'm 16 and a junior in high school. I've always loved Musical Theater but I've just recently decided I definitely want to take it seriously in college and pursue a career in performing. I danced for 13 years, but I've only had 3 years of choir (i am starting up voice lessons again however) and I have had no true acting training. Ive been in plays in middle school and twice a year throughout high school getting the female lead in the past two. I feel most comfortable in singing and pretty strong in dancing; my acting however I feel needs some work- not that I feel completely hopeless, I just don't feel like I am up to par with what some tops schools would require. I wonder if I am too inexperienced to go into this career, although i cant picture myself doing anything else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much!

Everyone is inexperienced at some point, and you’re still very young! It sounds like you’ve been doing very well so far, and you’re on the right track. You might think about signing up for some sort of an intensive summer program that will offer you some training in acting. If you take some time to search through this discussion group, you should find quite a lot of information about what’s available.
And it’s definitely not too soon to think about college and what sort of program you might be interested in. Again, this forum is a wealth of information and is a good place to start your search. Take some time to explore it, and when you’ve done that, I’m sure you’ll have some specific questions that many people here will be happy to help with. Good luck!

Competition is intense in this major. My son (now a senior BFA at Emerson) had some of his best instruction in dance and acting at Perry-Mansfield in Colorado, a summer program. This or a similar camp might be just what you need to get your game up a notch or two. He also had an insane amount of fun there as well, by the way.
