Experienced A+ goers

I start A+ tutoring on the 19th for PHYS 218 (Common Exam). I have yet to hear a bad thing about it, but how much does it really help? I didn't take calculus or physics in high school, so I'm obviously a little behind many of the students in my classes but I don't feel like it's something I can't learn. I do think the Bassichis style physics is unnecessary but I guess this is what I'm stuck with.

What should I expect from A+?

It helped me a ton. I probably would have struggled to make a “B” in both of my physics classes, but I made an “A” in both Phys 218 and Phys 208 only because of A+. The guy who teaches there, Ali, is easily the best teacher for any subject that I’ve ever had. He’s just a guy with an extremely good teaching ability who makes the subject interesting. Rather than just sit there and derive formulas like most of the professors do, he actually goes through each and every problem and explains every step. He’s also pretty darn funny too and the two-hour sessions will FLY by. I’m not saying that you can’t do good in Phys 218/208 courses without outside tutoring, but in general the people who go do better than those who don’t. I’d strongly urge you to at least go to a few sessions to see if it works for you or not.

Last but not least, if you’re gonna try it out, make sure to go to the sessions where there is a chapter review, rather than an exam review. He will usually TEACH the material in the first three sessions (called “Chapter Reviews”), and then just REVIEW the material in the 4th/5th/6th session (called “Exam Reviews”) before each test. The individual chapter reviews were much more helpful in my opinion.

Thats about the best answer I have for your question. I’ll be glad to answer any other questions.

Alright yeah just one more, I already purchased the season pass so I’m guessing I can go to any 218 session that is scheduled. Like on the schedule it has ch. 1 and 2 review and then ch. 3 review. But then it has like Exam Review #1 Tuesday, Exam Review #2 Wednesday, Exam Review #3 (All Professors) Regular and Common Exams Saturday, Exam Review #1 Common Exam Sunday, Exam Review #2 Common Exam Monday. Should I attend all of these? The Last Exam Review #2 Common Exam is on a Monday night which is also the night of my exam so I’m unsure if I’d be able to make that one.

Yes you can go to any session that is scheduled. Attend the three chapter reviews for sure. Ali will then tell everyone which exam reviews they should come to based on the professor you have.

Alright man I’m hoping he is as good as you say he is because it’s only chapter 2 and I’m already lost.

I’m in 218 right now. If you are lost this early on I would definitely give this a shot. Everything is going to build off of the foundation you get from early chapters.

Also, if you have Bassichis, consider purchasing University Physics. I have both books (switched to Kattawar during Gig 'em week), and University Physics is infinitely more helpful. To me, at least.

The problems done at A+ for the regular exam kids are so easy it seems compared to ours. If I can survive this semester with at least a C I will definitely be taking non common exam for 208.
