I’m looking at study abroad options - ideally for next spring - and I found out the program my study abroad counselor recommended to me, ISEP, has a number of options in Africa. She says she’s heard nothing but good things from people who’ve gone there, but I’ve never met anyone who has studied abroad there, so I figured I’d ask you all:
Has anyone done so before or know someone who has? Where did they go? What was it like? When’s the best time to go (fall or spring)?
Thanks in advance!
Africa is a huge continent, nobody can help you without more details.

Fair point @chzbrgr , although at least at my school there are only a couple of programs offered there.
Right now I’m looking at Botswana and Ghana.

You’re better off going to Ghana than Botswana as a student. I’m originally from Kenya but I have some friends that have studied in Ghana and Ghana is more known to host international students for both studying abroad, internships, and Gap year like programs. If you want somewhere more like the US I’d say South Africa (Cape Town or Johannesburg) and Nairobi,Kenya.

The study abroad center should be able to connect you with other students from your college who have done the programs you are considering.

I went to Morocco through ISEP.
I absolutely adored it and I hope to be able to visit again some day.
I went in the fall and I highly recommend doing so. People are more hyped up for the start of the school and there’s several celebrations going on to welcome Freshman and incoming exchange students. In Spring, people are usually just resentful about coming back to school.
