Hey all,

I am currently a student at UNC-Chapel Hill and have been accepted to Wake as a transfer student for next year. Some of the reasons I was a bit sour at UNC included the huge classes, state school atmosphere (in which almost everyone was from the same city), the sheer impersonality of the school, and the fact that it seems as if everyone I met did some kind of narcotic in their spare time (I've been told that that is exclusive to the area in which I lived, but whatever). I went to a small, private high school in Charleston, SC, so when I entered UNC, I basically went through culture shock and had a lot of trouble adapting to the big environment. Anyway, so my first year ended and at the end of the year, things improved slightly from first semester.

Wake Forest was my dream school and offered about everything I wanted in a college (small school with big time sports programs). Unfortunately, I was waitlisted during freshman admissions last year and they never admitted anyone off the waitlist.

My question was for current Wake students, if there are any around here, and their experience or observations of transfer students. Let me first say that I have two good friends at Wake from hoe, so I would not go to the school completely alone, but I will be, I guess, getting a potluck roommate since my friend pledged SAE and is living on their hall. Have any of you seen any transfer students having problems adapting? Making friends? I've heard from many different people that I will have no problems and others tell me most of the friendships are made in the freshman halls during their freshman years, and transfer students generally just make friends with other transfers.

I ask this because I am really considering whether it's the best move for me to go to Wake or just stick it out at UNC. While I am not very happy there, I do have a few friends I have made through social events. I have two outstanding bids to fraternities that I never pledged because I had planned on applying to transfer to Wake after Christmas.

I guess I just hope some of you could offer advice if you have had any experiences meeting transfer students and how they have done in their new environment. I am counting on my friends back from home, but I have not been able to meet with them as they are in summer school in Winston at the moment, and I need to reply to their offer of acceptance very soon. I have gotten all kinds of opinions, so even more is a tremendous help.
