Experimental Tests? What does this mean?

Hello everyone,

I took the SAT for the first time today and then I came eon to CC to find that the CB was experimenting with this test apparently. From what I've heard, the SAT is usually the same for everyone in the country but clearly there were two different Reading sets. Can someone please elaborate, as I am very confused at the moment. Thank you!

CB always puts 1 experimental SECTION on the SAT Reasoning Test. This section could be any of the 3 section types (CR, W, or M). It doesn’t count as a part of your score, but they’re testing these questions to see if they’re fair (so they can put it on later tests).

You’ll get either 1 extra math section, reading, or writing. You will NOT get an extra essay section, ever.

The experimental section is usually a 25 min question.

All SAT’s have an experimental section. Those scores don’t count, but the Collegeboard uses them for themselves.

Oh! Alright, thank you for clearing that up!

This wasn’t just a section, this was the whole test. Based on what other people said, there seemed to be two versions of cr and math. I was dealt with a three passage version, I am considering canceling my test because for third to last and second to last sections, I felt that I messed up my bubbling-put section 8 in the bubbles reserved for section nine, but quickly realized after finishing section 8 and filled in the corresponding section.

Yeah there were two different tests. There were two versions with different math sections, different reading sections, and different writing sections.

I messed up on bubbling too. I corrected myself. I got a writing experimental. Someone said something about pakistanis…truthfully, I did not read one of the passages and just started answering questions. So totally don’t know.

So wait, they don’t normally put two completely different reading sections? This one was different from how they normally do it?

@Kali It seems like they are trying to make it so people cannot cheat from the person next to them.

i had experimental writing

You are very lucky. Writing was pretty straightforward. Prompt was relatively easy, CR and Math were insane.

i think i bombed out on math, hopefully the other two sections can balance it out though…

Are you considering retaking it this year? I am thinking about retaking it in May or June

maybe january? heard the curve’s best then. taking my subjects in may/june

LOL, you’re funny. I heard it’s the hardest + worst curve.

Yea, Meitou, I found CR and Math challenging and Writing straight forward too. Did you have the Reading passages that included deception and a farmhouse? If so, I had the same one.

Wow, that sucks that there were 2 tests. That’s so unfair.
I’m glad I’m done with SAT Reasoning lol

It’s weird…so far I’ve heard people saying they got critical reading and writing experimental sections, but I got a math one. Did anyone else get a math experimental?

Oh, and Kali22, I had the same CR passages. Did you have one on Quantum Physics too? I agree that the writing was really straightforward. But one of the math sections (pretty sure it was the 3rd one) had some really convoluted problems in it. I’m hoping that was the experimental…LOL

Same here, MyInnerNerd. I definitely thought that last math section was rough towards the end (didn’t answer about five :l). But I don’t particularly excel in math and that couldn’t have been the experimental if there were already 4 reading sections, unfortunately for us. lol
