the waitlist letter said nothing about transfer option. Yet, I read someone on cc got rejected with transfer option. This does not make sense. Can anyone explain what is going on?

It's called a guaranteed transfer. Some students who are rejected are offered a transfer option after one (or two) years at another school with a certain GPA requirement. It's a delayed acceptance, basically.

With a waitlist....you're either accepted or rejected in the end (although I do think some were offered GT). With a GT letter, you are not accepted or 100% rejected....you are guaranteed entrance to Cornell within 1-2 years if you maintain specified requirements.
