So due to financial reasons, I'm forced to transfer from my school to a state school next year. Two of the schools I applied to (Stony Brook & Binghamton) required my ACT since I didn't earn more then 23 credits. It kills me because I didn't do so well on it (low 20s) and I submitted it already with 2 subject tests (bio E 610 and U.S history 690). These two schools are competitive and my college GPA right now is a 3.47 (University of Scranton) and my high school GPA was around a 90. I was rejected from Stony Brook as a freshman applicant so I don't know what that means for me now and I never applied to Bing before. I'm doing very well this semester so far and I wish I could submit my mid year grades but they don't consider those. People told me to retake the ACT but I have too much work right now (I'm a Bio major). So how should I go about this predicament?

Personally, I wouldn’t try to explain away a poor test grade. Bad grades, maybe (and, even then, only if you have a legitimate reason); but a poor test grade, no.

With that said, if you have other strong areas (ECs, writing, etc.), you may want to emphasize those as much as possible in your application. It may make up for the low test grades. Some strong LORs may help also.

To be safe, though, I would suggest applying to a few IS schools that aren’t as competitive as Bing. and SB. And, of course, there’s always the option of enrolling at CC for a year, then transferring out when you have more credits - that may actually be your best option if you’re looking to save money; there may also be quite a few scholarships available (Phi Theta Kappa, etc.) when you decide to transfer out.

Anyway, good luck!

I just submitted my ACT score to Geneseo. I feel 3 rejections coming -_-
