I'd like some input on this. Ok, so I'm an international student and I am aware that in ninth grade that I had a horrible grade in my AS level mathematics end of term exam which will be on my transcript. With my some serious hard work I was able to pull this grade up in time for the actual AS level math exam at the end of 10th grade even though I was missing my teacher's evening classes.

Do you think I should use the additional information section of the common app to provide some detail on how I was able to manage my time and what not with my rigourous schedule?

No, if they care about grades, they’ll ask you, especially freshman year. Your overall trend and stats will be more meaningful. Don’t bring attention to this if you aren’t asked.

No, because all students have to manage their time and many have a rigorous schedule. Yours is not a special case, and acting as if it is will hurt rather than help your application.

I agree with the others - you don’t want to sound like you are making excuses. One bad grade isn’t going to keep you from getting into a good school.

I did not want to explain the grade itself but what I did to better it but I guess I’ll just leave that out and use that section to elaborate on my gap years. :)
