Explaining a C?

I'm reporting my mid-year grades (just 1st semester, since my school is on a block schedule) and I finished with a 77 in Pre-Calculus Honors, which would be a c- at my school.

My gpa isn't as high as some other people's on here, but I usually get A's/B's, so I'm not really sure how much a c will stand out.

There's a section available for grade explanations when entering grade info, so I'm wondering if I should fill it out or leave it blank. I don't want it to seem like I gave up on the course, though the only explanation I have is that I was helping an out of school friend through a really emotional time, which took away from my study time. They were very thankful in the end, but its unfortunate that my grade suffered...

I got a C in bio… the best you can do is tell them that it wasn’t like you were slacking, maybe it was an off-year/class?
