How often do you people are succesful in excusing bad grades through giving an explanation. Do adcoms take it to heart often, or is it just wishful thinking that they take things like this into consideration

its stupid. no explanation needed..its a bad grade

Nothing excuses bad grades unless you went through some life altering, troubling events that were beyond your control (like a death in the family).

Thats what I mean, Im not saying excusing laziness, I'm saying do colleges honestly take things that are out of the person's control into consideration

Some schools have a section on their apps asking for an explanation of grade inconsistencies. I doubt they'd bother to ask if it had absolutely no bearing. The schools that are interested in knowing how a student overcame adversity obviously get it--life isn't always smooth sailing.

I know I’m bumping a 4 year old topic, but its relevant. I had a knee surgery to begin my freshman year of college playing football. Would this be a troubling event?

is the event that i developed severe OCD which affected my grades, and life, a reason to explain bad grades? i mean it is the reason, but would it be a good idea to say this? will it look bad on me? i mean, i manage it fine now, but it was so bad. will this work for, or against me?

^Wow. What he said.

(By the way my OCD was nothing to worry about; a relapse would do nothing more than send me rushing to the nearest bathroom)
