explaining gaps in my education

after high school I took 2 years off two work, I had to and during my time at ccc I have had to take one fall semester off due to family emergency and a death in the family, and having to pick up extra shifts at work due to my spouse taking time off from work because of it all. Is this a good explanation? Should I be very detailed?

No, be brief for a transfer you only get 1000 words and you have two topics to address so mention that briefly and use the rest to explain why you should be there and you major and why your a good candidate and address the topic of the question.

On the UC app there is going to be a section that is titled “College Terms”. In this section, there are going to be 3 columns titled “Term”, “College(s) attended”, and “Reason”. You are pretty much going to tell them where you attended college and what terms you attended college. And if there are some terms where you didn’t attended college, they want you to give them a “Reason”. It’s only 40 words. I didn’t go to college for 2 semesters and I just said “I decided to work for a year”. It’s not that big of a deal.

In addition to what mermaker mentioned, there is also a third section which I believe is after the 2 essay prompts where you can explain anything that doesn’t fit in any other part of the application.

Hi, RamonaFalls

Hardships are mostly reserved for that second prompt, as I’ve been told. However, don’t bring so many ideas into it - choose one, such as the death in the family, and write how that has effected you but MOST OF ALL how it has impacted you to continue your studies (in a way, explain how you have overcome through hardships - in a “leading way” is good).

Best of luck.
