Explaining low GPA on an internship application?

I am currently a freshman at a prestigious university (let's say one of the "Big Three" HYPs), and have had a very bad freshman experience. The first semester I was there, I was continuously sexually harassed by an older student, e.g. stalking, displays of violence, threats to the safety of me and my friends...etc. This led me to have a very low 1st semester GPA, about a 2.5. After going through multiple counselling sessions and a very emotional hearing with the school's Committee on Discipline, the harasser in question is now legally not allowed to talk to me and on probation, giving me much relief. Consequently, my GPA rose to a 3.0 2nd semester.

I am considering applying to a fall internship, and though they don't have a minimum GPA requirement, I feel like I should explain my low 1st semester GPA to them, as it is definitely not an accurate representation of my abilities as a student. Do you think this is a good idea? Or should I just avoid drawing attention to my GPA?

Hello, there are nothing to worry about as for now because you are still a freshman and I don’t think any company want to hire a freshman, not until junior or higher. If you really want to apply, you don’t put overall GPA if below 3.0 at least where I am from. When being asked why, just explain it nice and concise with your improvement on your 2nd semester.
