Explanation for GPA

How much does it help if a guidance conselor writes a letter explaining your GPA? If one has lived through VERY bad circumstances, such as living through child abuse for a decade, having a fatally ill father, and a mother suffering from a mental illness who has been through a pyschiatric ward twice, and maybe going on her third, plus having restrictions on the amount of time given for school work on the computer, do you think colleges should see a letter from guidance counselor about this? Thanks.

I would definitely send one and Im sorry you had to go through that.

Yeah, or add some information in the “Additional Info” part of the Common App. It’s definitely something worth explaining. Sorry again about what you’ve been through.

Also try writing about it in your essay. Just make sure if you and/or your counselor talk about it, make sure it doesn’t sound like whining or complaining.

thanks for all the support everyone, but do you think that colleges will understand enough, as in the top schools?
