Will this work for an explanation note? I think my counselor mentioned it in her rec, but I want to make sure they know.

Simple but to the point:

Please note that during the second semester of my freshman year I had a death in the family (my last grandparent) as well as a death during my sophomore year (my uncle). Due to such extenuating circumstances, my performance during those times were unusually low.

i no this may sound harsh but...well, it just seems strange to me. i mean, i guess everyone has different experiences. my grandmother passed in ninth, both grandparetns from mother's side in 10th, and yet i still managed to maintain good grades. i mean, if they were like your guardians or had a super close relationship with you i can understand but to me, and again, i'm not trying to be mean this is just how i feel about this, this looks like a way of getting out of having face the fact that you didn't perform well. but, hey, if you really were that close or this plunged you into deep depression or seomthing, then fine, but believe you would need to explain that as well.

umm...i of course they were really close or i woudln't have mentioned this. my grandmother has not seen her son (my dad) for over 17 years, he was abducted, and I have not seen him.
