Explanation on an SAT Writing question

QUestion 1: Katherine felt that she (has not had) (any understanding of) the (highly intricate workings) of the stock market (until) her uncle took her into the New york stock exchange.

Ans: A: Does it have to do with tense issue?

Question 2: could you clarify whats the error for this question?

Not very particular (in) nesting (sites), house wrens (may nest) in birhouses, mailboxes, building crevices- even in the pockets (of) hanging laundry.

Error: A

I’m no expert, but I think that for the first one, because she is already in past tense after saying that “Katherine felt” then she must remain in past tense and say “did not have” instead of “has not had”.

The second one should be not very particular in “choosing nesting sites” not very particular in nesting sites doesn’t make sense and is ambiguous.

once again I am no expert I got 690 =(

Q2: “particular in” is unidiomatic, should be “particular about”
