<p>How far can you go? How explicit can you get with your essays without the college admissions thinking you're a total nut or psycho. Like not in words, but for instance like talking about pms or something (no thats not my essay topic..lol) Anybody ever tried and has it ever worked?</p>
<p>In my thoroughly uneducated and inexperienced opinion, I say if you think it's a Match/safety school, then go the traditional route, and try and keep it PG rated. However, if it's a reach, then stick your neck out there with the essay and take a risk, maybe it will push you over the edge.</p>
<p>i should lean this essay towards liberal schools, huh? what about schools like pomona and cornell? cause i've asked some people about my essay and i've been getting such mixed reviews i'm torn...lol
any other comments guys? people who've actually written about such "explicit" things are welcome :]</p>
<p>i completely agree with heybucs! cornell is a reachs chool for everyone. be liberal and don't water down your essay because some people don't like it. if it represents you, go for it!</p>
<p>I think its important how and in what way the essay is explicit. If it is trashy, rude and disgusting (or anything else along those lines) Basically if it is in bad taste I think it could definitely work against you.</p>
<p>This may sound weird...but lets say in my essay i'm describing my chest (I'm a male)...because i used to have man-boobs when I was younger and I'm writing about weightlifting...so if I describe in detail how I was embarrassed about them...would that be bad for any school?</p>
<p>I don't think something like that would be inappropriate. I was thinking more along the lines of a sexual themed essay- that could be inappropriate.</p>

<p>haha yeah...I started working out..good diet and whatnot and now i look totally different..its great :) I plan to write my essay on it.</p>
<p>In my main essay........I said that I dont like alcohol and that I dont stick to people who are drunkards.</p>
<p>Now....any college is a party place....where drunkards rule....right??</p>

<p>Well why did you write the essay on that? Doesn't that seem like a negative topic...unless you put it in a positive tone. Do you think it revealed enough about you? I don't think they will feel you won't fit in based on that because not everyone in college drinks...i'm sure you know that. What was the basis for the essay though?</p>
