I'm sorry but I'm not too familiar with Explorations. I know theres a whole thread on it, but I guess I just have specific questions that I need answers for.

1) How is The NYU Show over at Hayden Hall? Is anyone in it here, can you tell me more about it? Do you really get to see Conan Live, etc or is it all kind of just for advertisement (the description)?

2) How is are the languages floors (specifically French)? (this is also at Hayden)

3) If I make those my top choices, will I have a greater change of getting into Hayden?

4) So I apply for Explorations, does that mean that there is a possibility that I will be assigned to any of the five that I put down...I mean if I dont get into the floors that I want, can I opt out of Explorations and just live on a normal floor? Or is it once you apply, thats it...you're IN EXPLORATIONS...and if you're lucky, its one of the top choices that you put down?

5) Is being in Explorations a huge chunk of anyone's time? I mean, do people often feel obligated to attend and does it get in the way of studying, etc?

6) I've noticed that you have to submit the Housing Application before you submit the Explorations Application....lets say I were to do NYU Show on Hayden...I would just put down Hayden as my first choice on the Housing Application right, and then put down NYU Show as my first choice on the Explorations Application? (becuase I'm noticed that Goddard isn't on the Housing Application so I was a bit confused)...

ok thanks...for answering. I'm going to Yosemite for a senior trip this week so I won't be home allll week, and no internet connection either. I'm backpacking across the mountains! Anyways, that means I need to know ASAP since the deadline for Explorations is the day I return from my trip.

1) I had trouble finding out info about The NYU Show, but I finally got some replies over at the NYU LJ community, so maybe this will help you with that part:

http://community.livejournal.com/nyu/1986868.html

2) I could be wrong, but I'm hearing the language floors are brand new this year.

3) Yes, explorations floors will help you get into a certain dorm. (But it's not a good idea to put something if you aren't interested in it, because then you'll hinder the other people's experiences there.)

4) It says on the application that if you apply for Explorations, you WILL be placed Explorations. Not necessarily your first choice (which is why they ask you to rank....and I hear mostly you do get into your top one), but you will be in Explorations.

5) Since I'll be a freshman next year too I can't comment from experience, of course, but I hear that you aren't obligated to attend events, so it shouldn't. And also I hear that a lot of floors don't really do anything. (If you're looking for a floor in Hayden that doesn't do anything, Bohemians and Rebels is a good shot from what I hear.)

6) Once you submit an Explorations application, your housing app is negated. That's what it says. So you can go ahead and put whatever you want on the regular housing form, and they may take that into consideration if they don't have room for you in any of the Explorations you apply for (which is highly unlikely), but I don't know for sure. Basically, your Explorations app becomes your new housing app.

Well.......have fun on your trip and hope this helped!

"they may take that into consideration if they don't have room for you in any of the Explorations you apply for (which is highly unlikely)"

It's really that unlikely? That's excellent. I was worried that explorations application process was really "competitive" (see: random)... I really want to be in Big Apple, Big Screen.

thankks scrapnel!! That helped a lot. Have you already applied for The NYU Show...or done your housing? AIM me: i'd really like to talk to you, it seems we have common interests. My AIM is MichEatsFish

and just as a general note: I'm not doing Explorations to get into Hayden and sorry if my post sounded like it. I'm a Communications major so TV and The Languages would really suit my interest.

If current students can comment on somemore, that would really be helpful!

Im was on NYU show. If you have a facebook, please talk to "garrett greer" hes the RA this year and next. I'd recommend it if you're in film and tv or acting...anything else your probably wont fit in with the activities... I was in Stern and basically did nothing with the floor, but alot of people did alot of things.

really? were the film/acting students like exclusive or something, or did you just not find interest in the stuff they were doing because NYU show is more suited for film/acting students. I'm in Communications and although I'm not doing like film production and stuff, i'm still very much interested in the Media, TV, and behind-the-scenes tv.

okay i added you to my buddy list. i'm carousels end just for reference.

i have already applied for explorations. actually, the information i found on livejournal persuaded me to NOT apply for the nyu show, and i ended up going for all the worlds a stage instead. the first reason i decided against it is cuz they said they really only made one show all year or whatnot, which they were just finishing up at the time i asked the question. so it appeared to me that they didnt really do much, and i wanted to be in an explorations floor that was active, since i probably wont do it again in future years. i also didnt like the way, as mattistotle said, that the non-film/acting students didn't really fit in so much. i was told actually, that the film/tv kids were rather pushy about it and didnt seem to think that non-film/tv kids were capable of doing much to help out. now, i AM a film/tv major, but i have no desire to be around people with that kind of attitude. and i realize ill have to be for classes, but if i can avoid it in dorming situations, id definitely prefer to.

scrapnel, to be fair, I never really tried to be apart of the productions. My major pet peeve was when i visited other exploration floors, everyone in the floor was friends with each other and always hanging out, while my floor had a few small cliques and that was about it, no real unity. I had more close friends on the 4th and 5th floor than I did on mine, which was kinda lame. this could just be because of the year though.

we truly didn't do as much as we could've though. I felt we were promised all these show tickets to like snl or daily show and such, but very few opportunities came up.

Its a good floor if you want to guarentee hayden without having to do anything, which is nice.

How is through the global lens in Rubin?
