Exploratory

I will be attending the University of Cincinnati in about three weeks. I'm starting off in the exploratory program and am hoping to find some closure in this forum.

Math and science were my favorite classes in school. I did well in almost all of my classes except my foreign language classes (spanish). I also played the trumpet all throughout high school in the concert (3 years), jazz (4 years), and marching band (2 years). As well as a year in the orchestra. Towards the end of my sophomore year I received first chair in each so I got bored of it which is why I stopped some of the bands. I had thought about majoring in performance but that option is long gone due to the time missed practicing.

Current majors I'm interested in:
Engineering Bachelors, 5 years (Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical) - These majors interest me because I love finding out how stuff works. At the same time I like to work with my hands and not just put things on paper.
Electronic Media Bachelors, 4 years - This major recently attracted me as I think my past experience with music could help me. I don't have an interest in working with radio stations which is a job this major could get me.

Money is important to me as it defines the lifestyle I'll live and I have hobbies that are quite expensive (playing the guitar/collecting them, building computers, and golfing). But I'd also like to pick a major that I'm interested in so I need to find a balance.

Any opinions and/or recommendations would be great.

You sound a lot like someone I know who will attend school this Fall at (I think) George Washington University. I suggested that he should study Electrical Engineering to combine his love of music with an interest in hands-on science. Somebody is going to be making a good living designing the next generation of electronic musical equipment…and it could be you.

Money has no determining level on happiness once you’re past the poverty line.
