Explore Bowdoin 2016

I just got my acceptance for the November program! I am so excited to visit and meet everyone else who’s going! Does anyone know how selective this program is or how much it boosts admission?

In case this is helpful, here’s the email:

Congratulations! You’ve been selected to attend the 2011 Explore Bowdoin from
Thursday, November 3rd to Sunday, November 6th. Please note that Saturday,
November 5th is an SAT test date. If you have signed up to take the SAT on
this date, we will not be able to arrange for you to take the test during your
visit. If this is the case, please let me know of the conflict immediately.
Or, if your plans have changed, contact me or Pat Folger immediately. We’ll be
making your travel arrangements very soon so please let us know if you are no
longer able to attend. I hope you’re excited about Bowdoin and are still
planning on joining us!

There are a few matters of business that we need to take care of in order to
get things moving along for your visit. I will need you to respond to this
email as soon as possible to confirm your spot in the program.

You will receive a travel itinerary and instructions one week prior to the
Explore Bowdoin start date. You’ll get other emails from me, but the flight
itinerary usually goes out about a week prior. Once again, this trip to
Bowdoin is not a guaranteed offer of admission to the College. I look forward
to seeing you in a few weeks and enjoying a fun weekend on the Maine coast.

Sounds a lot happier this year to me!

I JUST GOT MY ACCEPTANCE EMAIL. Well, I got it yesterday.

About how many people get into this thing?

You guys are soo lucky! I haven’t gotten anything yet :(

Haven’t gotten an email myself. Didn’t help I didn’t have any reportable scores, but I thought I did good on the essay. We’ll see.

Yeah, congrats to you guys who got accepted!

I haven’t heard anything either. I submitted my app the Monday before the deadline, so maybe my notification letter is deterred because I sent in my app a little later? I don’t know. If I don’t get a notification today (which at this point I am anxious enough to believe is a rejection letter), I think I am going to call tomorrow and ask if/when they will notify me.

Ahhhhh the stress.

I just got my rejection letter =(. I too am curious as to how selective this is, if anyone knows.

I just noticed that I got my letter from the “Assistant Dean of Admissions & Coordinator of Multicultural Programs.” Is this any indication as to there being a Multicultural factor involved?

Yeah, rejected. Oh well, no ACT or SAT score probably did a number on me, and the essay wasn’t near polished, it was a rough draft of my common app essay.

Tomatopuree, did you send an official SAT/ACT score report with your application? I never sent one because my guidance counselor never brought it up and the application never actually asked for one. Now that I think about it though, just writing in my ACT score without sending a report was probably really dumb.

hey ted,

i don’t think you needed to send an official sat or act report. I didn’t send one, I just reported it on the application form. My counselor only sent the transcript and my senior year schedule.

No, I didn’t have my counselor or anyone send the actual score reports. I think the only thing that you needed to have your counselor send was your transcript and current-year classes.

So did any other rejects get an email that gives them a fee waiver? Is this for everyone who got rejected/applied or just a select few?

Hahaha i got the rejection fee waiver too… the day AFTER i submitted and paid for my ED app.
the irony. haha, but I emailed them asking to be reimbursed, but if not, oh well. :)

Haha, well I hope they reimburse you. I’m still wondering if the waiver was to everyone who applied or just some? I don’t know, I guess I kinda lost hope to apply RD after being rejected from explore bowdoin in the first place. -_-
