Chocoholic, One of my older son's friends who is currently a jr. at UNC, when they had Explore Carolina 3 years ago, parents did have the option of staying in a dorm, so that's why I brought it up. I think we'll fend for ourselves and get our own hotel room but thanks for offering.....

I did look at the homepage, and it does have conflicting information re: the dates, so UNC is getting a phonecall from me tomorrow.
We may also wait until its almost March and then decide wjat to do/when to go.

"We also hope to see you at one or more of the special events we will be hosting in March and April for students of exceptional promise."

These first two sessions are by invitation only and are the only Explore Carolina sessions with overnights. These are the sessions I mentioned in another post that they reserve for students they are really trying to attract to Carolina. The remainder of the sessions are for everyone else in the admitted pool and are space available on a first come first served basis for registration.

The sessions that allow parents to stay in dorms are the summer new student orientations. The last orientation which is held just prior to move-in in August does not have dorm availablilty for parents but does allow those students to move into their dorms two days earlier than the rest.

This last session is primarily for students that have to travel more than 400 miles to attend so they don't have to make a long trip in the summer and then be back in August although many out of staters do decide to attend one of the earlier summer sessions.

After several calls today I got an answer about the explore carolina conflicting dates situation. It turns out that the information on this event was released prematurely. Soon the event page will have an explore carolina invitiation with three dates to choose from including the 22nd.

humbucker87: Did you get the separate email that was sent today? That email does have several dates listed.

I havent gotten an email yet, but hopefully its on the way.
