anyone else going this fri?

I’m going! I don’t know where you’re from, but just so you know the weather in Chapel Hill is pretty cold and rainy right now. So don’t come expecting sun like I did! :)

H or Y

Your experience is the first I have ever heard of like that in over six years. Are you sure you weren’t at Dook?

Were you on a guided tour? Most tour guides get ****ed when students interfere with their tours, which is why they get ignored. I tried to get a tour group to sign something a couple of weeks ago, and the tour guide basically told me off. We’re not really supposed to interrupt tours just to be friendly; I can’t think of another college where such a thing would take place. What did you expect?

You certainly missed out then. I can tell you that Chapel Hill has much more than “cheesefries and grits” to offer. There is a reason that Chapel Hill is consistently rated one of the best college towns in the nation

Wow…you went to Dook and didn’t get your wallet stolen? I guess you didn’t try touring the “college town” that is Durham. Dookies can be nice, if you flash your New Jersey ID at them to show that you belong.

I don’t mean to get into an argument about cultural relativism over the merits of cheese fries and egg grits, but man. Harvard or yale, you come off as a total snob. You’ve already made your decision not to go to UNC because of whatever weird worldview you have that current college students should care about nitpicky high school seniors (to make this clear, they shouldn’t), etc., etc., so I’ll take advantage of your total anonymity and say this: get over yourself. Eadad was making a joke.

I hope you’ll grow where ever you go, but no one’s crying that you’re not going to UNC.

Oh. I feel so stupid. I just realized harvard or yale is a ■■■■■. April fools…

harvardoryale, I actually agree with you. Every experience I’ve had with Carolina has been negative - the staff have not been friendly or accommodating and the students were not very friendly, either. But Carolina is still on my list because they have great opportunities and I’m hoping that my experiences are not the norm.

H or Y

I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek when I made my comment. Apparently you have yet to learn about sarcasm which is very different than arrogance.

I am NOT an UNC student but am the father of a UNC grad who turned down Yale to attend UNC and never regretted his decision. He’s now in a top ten med school so graduating from UNC obviously didn’t hurt him for that.

I have visited UNC numerous times in the last five years and have never met the types of students you are describing, in fact quite the opposite which is why I felt so comfortable with his decision to attend UNC. It was among the friendliest schools we visited and we visited ALL the Ivies as well.

He became such a die hard Tar Heel that he and most of his friends are all heading back to Chapel Hill from all over the country this weekend for the Final Four. They want to be there to experience the celebration (hopefully) on Franklin St. like they did their freshman year.

I simply wanted to point out that your experience was quite unique and definitely the first time I have EVER heard anyone say that. I’m sorry you had a bad experience because that is certainly NOT the UNC we all know.

Good luck wherever you go.

harvardoryale, I am sorry you had such a poor experience at Carolina.

To be completely honest, I can’t imagine that you actually had that happen to you at Carolina. As I have said before, one of my favorite things to do here is finding the families looking at campus maps and offering them help finding whatever building they are looking for. It happens a lot since my dorm is right by Jackson Hall, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the resulting conversations if they go on beyond “Thanks for your help.” Maybe this happened on a student lead tour, in which case, college students are supposed to stay away, to keep from disrupting the student that is leading the tour.

You, froggie3, and one other poster are the only people that I can think of who have posted anything resembling a negative experience at UNC in the time that I have been on these boards, and I have been on them for over a year now. I think that is very telling.

As far as there not being any good food around, I’ll take Franklin Street over anything that Harvard or Yale have to offer.

Good luck with your decision. You are obviously a talented individual to have been accepted into the aforementioned schools and UNC, and I hope you have a good experience wherever you go. I have had an amazing experience here in Blue Heaven, and all of my friends have as well, and I doubt we would change a single thing if we could do it all over again.
