Have you guys sent thank you letters to your interviewers? Do you think it's too late for me to send one now...? I had my interview a while ago.

i wouldn't worry about it. i don't have any contact information for my interviewers.

Nope, I didn't.

Btw, how did your interview go? I feel like mine was average - nothing remarkable, but I didn't say (too many) stupid/inappropriate things. I snagged on answering "Why pre-med?" but the rest of the questions were just about okay.

I feel like mine was a little below average =(

I think I asked too many random questions at the end too.

i thought mine went extremely well. they were surprised at a few things i said (in a good way) and asked me to repeat things so that they could write a direct quote on their notes. the interview was very comfortable and i made them laugh a few times, too. they asked maybe 5 or 6 questions and i just spoke for the rest of the time. i memorized their names so at the end of the interview i was able to say goodbye to all of them by name.

My interview went extremely well. First off, I'm in South Carolina and I had to drive all the way to Atlanta just to interview, so my interviewer was impressed with my dedication. I actually sent a Thank-You letter the same week as my interview. How important do yall think the interview really is? Like with someone with a little above average scores (1900 SAT, 3.6GPA) and excellent diversity, background and EC's, how critical do you think the interview will play into my admittance?

This thread is about interviews for scholarships for applicants who have already been admitted. But glad to hear your interview went well anyhow!

i feel just the same as your, liana. my interview was absolutely ordinary. and my answer to "why pre-med?" was so absolutely generic that i almost puked. haha.

the first thing my interviewer did was ask me about my family life- anyone else have that? i gave an honest answer and she seemed kind of sorry that she asked (my fam=highly messed up and dysfunctional). i thought it was a very weird question though.

Socks: Regarding the second part of your post, something similar happened to me as well, lol.

Well, they kind of try on purpose to throw you a few curveballs, to kind of knock you out of the prepared "routine" you've built up before the interview...

Similar thing happened to me at my first interview (in the fall, prior to getting admitted, not the scholarship interviews) they kind of asked me some questions that totally caught me off guard...I think I sucked pretty horribly :) but I'm here now and that's what counts right :)

But definitely they appreciate honesty and candidness...I think :)

they asked me about my family:
"tell us about your family and your life"
that was the first thing they asked me and it threw me off at first cuz i didn't know where to start so i just started talking, and whatever came out of my mouth was good from what i remember.

socks, what did you say about pre-med?

I mentioned problem solving, and they thought I was talking about a TV show - I never said it was my motivation, but they must have gathered as much and thought I was superficial for basing my potential career choice on a show... Hopefully that's not the impression they got, lol.

Overall I felt like my interview was richly cliche - don't know how many times I used the words "inspiration," "integrity," and possibly even a "triumph." (okay, not really on the last one, but might as well have)

I actually felt really relieved because once it was over I thought I had done well (for my first interview, at least), but then the day after I realized a few things I said that might have been construed as stupid, and then a week later I thought it was the worst interview ever. Oh well, I guess that's the way the psyche works?

Glad they didn't ask me about my family life though...

^Did they think you were talking about House? Whenever people ask me why I want to be a pathologist it always sounds like that show convinced me to do it, which it didn't at all. It may have furthered my desire to be a doctor, but it isn't a very large part of it. lol

Yeah it was. I figure that's better than having them think I was inspired by Grey's Anatomy though or General Hospital, lol. Before the interview I had only watched 1 episode of House... so I wouldn't say the show influenced me much either.
