I know the first session of Explore USC just finished. If anyone went to it, I have a question about luggage. I heard you can leave bags at check in, but what if you have a suit bag? Do they have a rack or something to hang it up?
How were the interviews?
Were your parents with you for some of the time or were yo separated for the entire time?
- There's no rack or anything, I don't think. You can perhaps drape your bag over your suitcase or put it in a safe place in the corner. I doubt anybody will trample over it.
- The interview were fine. They are strictly timed to be around 20-30 minutes. After I finished responding to a question, my interviewer was like "We have 5 minutes left. Any questions for us?" which indicates they do indeed time the interview. It's pretty much like any other college interview you've had to an extent, and it's mainly them asking you to pitch yourself to them and convince them to invest in you. Have good answers and BE CONSISTENT. Read your app. They literally have it sitting in front of them, every single page of your Common Application.
- I didn't go with my parents. The only events that you really do with your parents are on the first day, they pretty much can do everything with you up until the Academic Info Session. They sit with you there and then you meet your hosts and you part ways. You're alone with your host from the late afternoon until your scholarship interview the next day. After your interview, you can reconvene with your parents and go to the farewell lunch then head home.
Hope this helps! I just got back from it and it was such an amazing experience. My host was such a great guy. USC completely exceeded my standards. Best of luck to you!
@ComputerAge Thanks for the awesome info! Can parents go to the Academic Info Session too?
Which dorm did you stay in and did you like it? Was your host same major as you?
@whynotnow Yeah your parents attend that session. I stayed in New North and it was fine except the facilities are really sad. The people are great. And yeah, my host was same major and also a USC Scholar.
Not all hosts are same major. They put on a great program. From what I heard, the interview experience, questions, and intensity varied widely. Lugged is all key together on a large cart so no problem for suit bag or loose sleeping bag etc.
Waiting UNTIL as late as April 1 for the results is the hardest part.
^ scholarship decisions are posted a week before reg admissions
Sorry for the typos /auto-correct. Luggage is put on carts.
