Explore USC

To all of you who have attended an Explore USC session (I know one was this past Friday and one is tomorrow)... how were your experiences?? Any opinions welcome, I'm just curious. I had a GREAT experience!!

to those of you who have already gone, or are planning to...is it mandatory to stay in the residence hall for a night?

No it's not mandatory. They ask you at Check in if you are going to stay the night with a host. I would recommend it though, the evening activities are really fun.

hmm...what exactly were the evening activities? also, how was your interview? any info would be greaaat!

Yeah, if someone could post on their experiences I would love to hear more! I'm going on Thursday...

Evening activities are great! You go put your luggage up, and go to eat dinner. (be sure to ask to eat in EVK, it's SUCH good food!!!) Then we went to a student run coffee house on campus and watched performances: A competitive dance team did hip-hop routines, then an accapella group sang Jimmy eat world/weezer/ben folds five, then there was a standup comedy improv. group. Then we went back to our dorms- you could go out and party if your host wanted to take you, but they're not supposed to take you off campus!

My interview was really really easy- they asked me what i liked about USC, how my overnight stay was, what was i scared about about coming to college and how would i address that fear, what fields of study i was interested in, what groups i would join on campus, what do i like to do for fun, yada yada yada.

After 4 other interviews it was definitely my easiest one so far- it was all just really natural conversation. The girl I sat next to though in line got asked the question "Why do you think we should give the scholarship to you and not the other people competing???" That's a tough question. Something to think about how to answer in case you get asked that. Glad I didn't!!

Hope that helps!!

please write this down and post it up somewhere. one day when you're super stressed during midterms you can look at it and chuckle to yourself. believe me evk gets old really quick!!

lol, i have never heard such words uttered about evk...personally, i would request to eat anywhere other than evk, namely parkside.

Haley, the second program started yesterday (there are 5 in total, starting Mondays an Thursdays and go through the next two weeks) Maybe more perspectives can answer your questions after today ;-)

Haley...were you interviewing for the Presidential or Trustee scholarship?

Also...I'm from Colorado...*** is EVK?

Hahaha, maybe we just have REALLY bad cafeteria food here!

Its a cafeteria.... I was interviewing for Trustees Scholarship, I'm from Georgia...

I used to go to school in Georgia...and we DID have really BAD cafeteria food...haha, seriously.

Oh well, I'm really looking forward to my visit! I just got an email from my host and she lives in an apartment so that should be a fun experience...especially since I was considering that for my housing.

I havent recieved anything from my host... : ( .....but mine isnt until next weekend (March 9th or something...)

Did anyone else receive email from a host?
When do we put our luggage up? And when do we find out who our host is?

how was round 2 of the trustees explore??

I didn't receive any email from my host.... we were matched up at 5 pm on the first day. It was pretty quick, you didn't get to know who your's was beforehand. You can put your luggage in a big room in the morning when you get there and they watch it and you can go back and pick it up once your host has met up with you and you guys go back to the dorm. Hlope that helps!

Does anybody have idea about the total number of students attended interview for the trustee scholarship ?

well i heard there were 160 the first session. anyone know the number for the second session??

also, do they have a quota for trustee scholars per school-like this many for the college of letters, arts, and sciences, this many for engineering, etc.??

Alright...I just got back from the first Presidential Scholarship session and it was AWESOME!

Just to fill in a few facts for you...
1. Trustee interviewees CAN get the Presidential Scholarship (I know...because it happened to my host)
2. According to one of the speakers...there is a VERY SLIM chance that if your interview goes exceptionally wonderful...a Presidential candidate could MAYBE get a Trustee Scholarship (if you blew the committee away).
3. Questions can be about ANYTHING...so just be yourself and don't sweat it...also, it's not like you stand in front of a panel of three people...it's much more relaxed, everyone is sitting down, like a casual discussion.

And now on the experience...you definitely won't regret it. I had so much fun, met so many wonderfully genuine, nice people, and realized just what an awesome school this is.

This school is perfect. It has the perfect balance. Between first-tier academics and top-notch facilities to crazy parties and gatherings on the row and tons of student-run organizations and performances...there is always something to learn from, immerse onself in, and get involved with.

Good luck to everyone out there...I hope this was informative. :)

This school doesn't have to "sell" anything...and you will DEFINTELY have a good time...especially if you WANT to!

i, too had a fantastic time during my visit and interviews! usc rocks!
