I just got back from Explore USC...overall, it was awesome...Interview wasnt bad at all and the professors I talked to were really nice...My host was a bum and we didnt do anything...but I still had fun.

cubsrule, who did u interview w/?

Anyone remember the name of the tall interviewer with long hair?

I interviewed with Viterbi...One of my interviewers was Dr. Yen...I dont remember the rest...

soo does anyone know when we find out who gets the scholarships?

we get a letter in about two weeks.

Just as a note, I don't think that they knew what colleges you applied to unless you told them. That information isn't really allowed to be shared college to college. I'm so nervous about getting the letters. I had a really good time as an Explorer, and I really like the TO program. Is anyone else appying for thematic option?

Nikara: Yeah, I want to apply for the thematic option. Sounds like an interesting program. When can we apply? After we get the scholarship or can we apply before we get the letter regarding the scholarship in 2 weeks time?

I'm considering TO. My concern - is it too difficult for me?

Nikara- I think they did know what colleges you applied to. My interviewer said something along the lines of, "seeing how many colleges you applied to..," and and that was sarcasm since i applied to alot of schools.

how do they know how many colleges we applied to?

I'm sure that TO will be challenging, but I think it will be worth it. I was talking to the boyfriend of my host, and he really wished he had done it. The application deadling is March 24, and you hear by April first.

I applied to T.O. It sounds like alot of reading, but worth it. Another thing to add (not attacking anyone) is that USC is private, meaning they can do as they please. Thus, they can also communicate with any other private institutions they please. It's common knowledge that all the Ivies communicate with each other over applicants so I wouldn't be suprised if USC did some investigating for themselves. I've thought about it and I don't know how they could have known what colleges I applies to without finding out for themselves. I thought maybe when I sent test scores they could see all the colleges I applied to, but then I I realized I sent them individually to USC based on the earlier deadline.

lobsta: How do we apply for the TO? puhlease answer... Do we get an application by post? (I'm an international prez scholar finalist so post may take some time to reach me) Can we apply online? how is it done?

if you have a 32 on your ACT and a 1420 on your SAT, you should get an invitation. I got my finalist info in february but didn't get my T.O. invitation in the mail until after Explore USC (scared me a little for a moment). You can submit an application online at : www.usc.edu/gs/toapplication.htm
If you have the requirements, I would say just submit an application. If not contact them, but you can still apply. There's just some other procedure.

how do they know how many colleges we applied to?

I believe it's on the list of schools you put on the fafsa, if you applied

Ahhh...that's really SCARY. I kind of accidentally fudged on that question (about how many schools I applied to) and didn't tell them ALL of the schools I applied to...it was especially bad because they asked me "Oh, so you didn't apply to any other schools on the west coast?" and I said no...even though I did! EEK! Not good. I didn't mean to...and totally regreted it afterwards! I guess that was just my nerves coming through...dang. Am I screwed?

how does which schools we apply to affect their decision??

Lawyers call other lawyers when they have law questions...
Doctorcs ask for consults from other doctors when they have medical questions...
Why doesn't anyone else seems to realize that the same is true of admissions committees?

ahh so it DOES matter
