I got an invitation to go to some hotel and attend an event called "Exploring College Options," at which Harvard, Georgetown, Duke, and UPenn admissions officers are allegedly going to discuss their institutions and admissions generally.

Has anybody else received such an invitation, or attended such an event? Is anybody planning to go? Are these things any good?

I went to one this spring. I found it worthwhile- one of the guys I went with applied to 3/4 (all but Duke). It was definitely worth going to...you get 4 info sessions without having to travel far. You might as well go. I went with friends, and it was actually pretty fun.

You should at least attend at least one info sessions. After a while though, they're all pretty much the same unless you have a lot of specifc questions for the school.

My daughter went to one last year for Carleton, Bowdoin, Pomona, and Swarthmore - found it very interesting and put a few more colleges on her list. She did just receive the invitation to Harvard, Penn, Duke, Georgetown.

you dont have to dress up. basically a representative from each of the 4 colleges talks for around 15 minutes or so (actually, i dont remember the timing), and then people ask a bunch of questions. i thought it was pretty useful...and i saw friends from school which was fun.

if you have been on cc for a while, then all the information they tell you is sort of useless
I found it to be fairly boring, but I guess it could be nice if you enjoy sitting down and looking at a slideshow of each school :)

I went in NYC, and thought it was pretty useless. I pretty much knew everything which they discussed. Plus, all the financial aid questions were boring.
