Expos 20

So like... I've heard everyone struggles through this course and that kinda worries me. So... i'd like to ask any current students for some insight. Why does this class give people trouble? and... what has been your experience in the Expos 20 course that you decided to take?

My son just finished his course. He says most people get B's and B+'s, so you shouldn't worry. (He actually has gotten A's and A-'s--but he hasn't gotten his last paper back, so I shouldn't jinx him!). You also get to pick from a whole bunch of topical areas for your course, so at least you will be writing about something that interests you. Also, you do a rough draft, and then conference with the instructor about it before you do the final draft. Even with the conference, it seems to require a lot of work at each stage, but I think students really get a lot out of it.

I took Censorship and Freedom of Expression with Judith Murciano and it was THE MOST AMAZING CLASS EVER and you SO TOTALLY SHOULD TAKE IT.

(But in all seriousness, the CUE entry for expos lists all preceptors with high student evaluations, and I highly suggest you try to get into one of their sections.)

Expos has a reputation for having harsh grading, but it all depends on the individual student and preceptor--in my case, expos was actually my best freshman fall grade and I found it a lot of fun and not particularly difficult.

Hahaha. I've heard Censorship is horrible, and that it should be avoided at all costs!

I'm not totally sure if Judith still teaches it...she teaches a new expos class now ("Ethics and the Professions") and I think I heard someone mention that there were sections of Censorship being taught by someone new. So that may be why.

Ethics and the Professions is supposed to be AMAZING. I think I want to take that one next semester.

don't you steal my spot, sunglasses!

Apocalyptic Visions is where it's at.

Oh, justforgetme--there's room for both of us. Judith is a welcoming lady, I am sure. ; -)

She is the queen of all that is good. I was lucky enough to have her both as my senior tutor during college and my fellowships advisor in law school. She ROCKS.
