"Express Applications" etc.

I'm just curious if a lot of other people are receiving invitations from various colleges/universities to fill out their Express Application or their other 'special' application whereby they give you priority notification for scholarships, a waived application fee, etc. etc. etc.

I just want to know if this is just a common marketing technique colleges use and whether it would be worth my time. (just like using their alumni contacts to encourage you to apply to a particular college etc.)

(and please don't take me as coming off as elitist or something. colleges are businesses after all so I don't think it would be strange to consider this could simply be another marketing technique)

I think it’s worth doing it. It’s still an online application so if it has benefits do it, take the advantage of it. I’m doing it as well.

If you’re already planning on applying there, go for it. But don’t waste your time applying there with the “special” app if you’ve never heard of them or aren’t interested or whatever.

I have gotten one from Denver University. Their big thing is that it’s less essays than the common app…but since it’s the same as the common app (they already have no supplement) I’m just basically re-writting the same information (ec) on a different form. Then again, there’s some amount of priority considering they only want a single essay instead of multiple ones- but maybe I can express myself more in the common app even if I decide to give up the priority.

Decisions…
