AreWeDoneYet - thread #153 by carolinahopeful

That’s 2009 numbers - think it’s wrong one

I have decided that the admissions office has been taken over by the same people who organize presales for Radiohead tickets.

Meanwhile, Lady Di, very sorry for your friend. She, her family, and you have my prayers.

They updated the blog with instructions to view your decisions tomorrow. Check it out if you haven’t :)

Thanks boymom5…the numbers are from 2009 and overall they are pretty good. OOS though is only 22%…that is what we are:( Praying S gets in. He refuses to even come on CC…thinks I’m nuts…lol. I wonder how many other moms are on here instead of their kids. I can’t be the only crazy lady…lol:)

I am another crazy mom checking constantly these last few days. So, you are not alone!

HAHAHAHA! My kids think I’m crazy! I have found out so much on here, though, so I look at is as research…

Yup, I’m another mom…you’re definitely not alone. Daughter doesn’t even know I’m on here. Being OOS she is assured she doesn’t have a chance.

Thanks ladies…it sure seems like I’m in good company:)

Found this in last year’s blog from Julie. So, this was the class of 2014 STATS. Not this year… Also, this was for the EA group.

And further down…

Hope this helps.

Not to rain on the parade but 48% in state acceptance and 22% out of state acceptance does not equate to a 70% acceptance rate. The actual acceptance rate was 35.68% for the 2009 early applicant pool.

They updated the blog saying they’ll be released tomorrow. Do you think they’ll be on at midnight?

I know it’s kind of lame considering decisions are coming out in a matter of hours, but you all seem like you have a good idea of whether or not you have a good chance. I would greatly appreciate if anyone would tell me if I have a shot, so I’m just gonna list my basic stats and see if any of you answer :p

OOS (ugh)
ACT 32
GPA 3.85 (my schools weighs very strangely, on a 5.0 scale it’s about a 4.3)
ECs are pretty weak but not all that bad
Essays are amazing in my opinion
Also, I’m Puerto Rican so URM, not sure if that helps at all

Based on Loring’s numbers the 2010 early admit rate was 36%, it seems pretty consistent year on year.

URM definitely helps, from what I’ve heard.

ACT is great!

From what I understand, UNC weights essays very heavily. So, you should have a definite advantage there.

Your ECs could not possibly be weaker than DS’s, LOL.

I think you have a strong shot. :)

“…22% out of state acceptance”

Yeah, but all 22% are on this board, LOL!

@kohoutek, thank you so much. I cannot imagine the grief of carrying the baby so far, so long, and then…this. I appreciate y’all’s kindness and prayers.

The folks at CC are the best!

BTW, the stats are located in the comments for the Admissions Blog from Feb. 2, 2010, if anyone wants to verify.

70% accepted? This is way, way off. According to the admissions dept, there were about 14,000 that applied EA. 70% of these would mean that almost 10,000 were admitted during the EA cycle. According to the CDS for 2009-2010, there were a total of of about 7,300 admitted during the EA and RD cycles combined. The acceptance rate for EA is probably somewhere in the 35-40% range, which is a little higher than the 32% for the entire admissions cycle (in 2009-2010).

I just got notified about the Pogue scholarship, anyone have any info on it? Like how many are chosen in total, IS v. OOS.etc…
