Hi everybody. I am very interested in Northeastern University, and my grades/ec's/test scores make the cut. But the thing is, from my school's Naviance, it seems to be a slight reach for some reason. Maybe this is because of the amount of people that apply. My question is how to express interest? I am visiting in 2 weeks and taking a tour/info session, and am applying EA (they dont offer ED). There supplement has no essay or place to say if you have visited etc, so I am wondering how to express more interest? Thanks so much!!

Can you work it into your main essay somehow? (You can make a different version of the common app, so all your other schools don’t have to hear about how you love Northeastern.)

Are you interviewing when you visit? If so, this is an opportunity to say “Northeastern is my first choice. If you admit me (and I can afford it), I will come.”

Be ready for the next question, which will be ‘Why?’ You should have answers that demonstrate that you’ve researched the school carefully and know what they have to offer. Nothing kills an interview faster than a student expressing a lifelong passion for, say, engineering, to a school that doesn’t offer it. (Yes, a friend’s daughter actually did that in an interview at a highly selective LAC.)

Thank you both for your replies. Interviews are only offered on an invitation-only basis (by the website it looks as if this happens once you apply). The website also says in BOLD that if you want additional information presented to the admissions committee, to do so in writing. Do either of you believe that I should write a “Why Northeastern?” essay and attach it? (I have many valid reasons why btw)

According to Northeastern’s common data set, Northeastern does NOT consider the level of an applicant’s interest, so unless you are visiting for your own benefit and to ask genuine questions, I would focus on the other aspects of your application (essays, recommendations, test scores, etc).

TLDR; Northeastern doesn’t care about the number of times you’ve visited and attended info sessions.

Thank you cortana431. I forgot to check that out with the common data set. Scores, rec letters, etc are solid, now it’s time to keep working on my essay! Any other ways to boost my chances at the school?

(referring to my most recent question in 6)… BUMP!!
