Extended Deadline?!?!

i did not finish applying to UChicago because i ran out of time. I just got this email saying...

Dear [Name],

Thank you for your interest in the University of Chicago!

We are glad to see that you have started the application process. However, according to our records, you have submitted the Common Application, but not the Chicago Supplement. Both pieces are required in order to complete your application..

Please submit your Chicago Supplement by Tuesday, January 19, 2010. We look forward to reviewing your application!

Best wishes,

...so is this some ploy to lower their acceptance rate or will they really give my application a chance?

If you get in your application by that time, I’m sure they’ll regard your application on the same level as those of everyone else.

I believe it is the UC’s tradition to allow to finish your application by a later deadline if you have at least started it.

Chicago is nice. They wouldn’t email you if they were just going to throw away your application. They want people who are a good fit, and a lot of people who are good fits aren’t necessarily the most punctual.

Chicago is amazing- what do you have to lose? It isn’t that much $ to apply, and what if you get in?
